I've anticipated this game for awhile now and this game delivers. This game brings back old memories with modern graphics and mechanics. I am reminded of various platform games from the SNES days such as Tomba, Megaman, Castlevania and all of the best platformers added into 1 modern game. This is actually a better remake of a platformer than Mighty Number 9 which was supposed to be a remake of Megaman. This game is very impressive and I've spent over 3 hours playing this game last night without getting bored. That is an accomplishment since I don't often spend more than 2 hrs on video games on average. Looking forward to playing it again tonight, it's quite challenging and fun to see upgrade as you progress in this game. The value is also great, you will not be dissapointed!

Toy Odyssey is what happens when you put Rogue Legacy and Toy Story together. The game is incredibly well made from the top to the bottom. Character and mob animations and designs are great looking. The soundtrack, ambiance, and sound design are all wonderful. The map generation isn't random and chaotic like many other "Roguelite inspired" titles. And above all else, where it counts, the gameplay and core mechanics are as sound as we've seen in a metroidvania platformer since Ori and the Blind Forest. You play as Brand, a toy of a child that has been left alone in a part of the house overcome with an unknown darkness. You must venture forth finding familiar friends and fighting toy foes that have been corrupted (prepare to hate spiders and marbles). The RPG elements in the character building are phenomenal. They are incredibly basic simply just paying nuts, the games currency, to upgrade either you weapons or 5 main body parts. Head, Body, Gloves, Cape, and Feet can all be upgraded through a simply yet addicting leveling up process. You just dump money into them for upgrade points worth different amounts of stat increases and passive abilities. For instance if you upgrade you feet enough, you get the beloved double jump. And that is all without mentioning the base building in the game. While it feels very mobile at first with the amounts of time that each upgrade takes (hours for many of them), they do progressively get easier as you go along. The only major downside with the game from playing is just this. The fact that you have to wait numerous real time hours for an upgrade to finish. The silver lining? It does continue to go with the game closed. Overall, Toy Odyssey: The Lost and Found is my biggest hidden gem and surprise hit this year. It has easily climbed up onto my Games of the Year list. Not sure where yet as I need to complete the game first, but after sinking several hours into this delightful game, I needed to let the people of Steam know that it is worth a buy for any fans of Rogue Legacy style games or Metroidvania style games. Pros: + Fantastic art style and animation quality. + Sound design is spot on (wear headphones). + Addictive and fun gameplay and core elements. + Simplistic, yet, comfortable progression system. + Well worth the $15 price tag. Cons: - Slow base building mechanic initially. - Few minor bugs (options settings not saving once the game is closed). - SPIDERS and MARBLES! Ahhh!

The game is amazing, tons of upgrades, tons of crafting and materials, super smooth gameplay, and something i didnt expect is that you really get into the story told by the diary pages!

Having a lot of fun with this one. Addictive, lots of weapons and gear, leveling system, fun and varying enemies, quests and allies to complete/find, a base to build up and defend, procedurally generated map that changes if you die, lots of replayability, enjoyable story (love the diary pages), I could probably go on. My only complaint centers on how you upgrade the base... I fel like it should be as days pass, not as time passes. 5.5 hours for me to upgrade the workbench.... I mean, come on.

Castlevania Symphony of the Night, Megaman X and Rogue Legacy walk into a bar, and a baby came out the back door, called...
"Toy Odyssey: The Lost and Found"
Overall +Replayability +Character progression +Combat +Variety in gear +Leading to variety in combat +And a good variety of enemies +Aesthetics +BOOTY AND LOOT! <3 +A story for the Feels -Grindy in some parts -Still could use some polish in UI -Minor and rare bugs Pros: If you have any fond memories of the above, you may enjoy this. There's a steady progression system, some base-building elements and loot extravaganza, in the form of blueprints for weapons, gear, and base-building material. The main appeal would be the combat, which is pretty tight, with the varied weapons having different attacking range, attack speed (in delays and attack rate) and damage. It's definitely not purely aesthetic. In this way, Castlevania SoTN's daddy genes are showing. At the same time, the movement is heavily inspired by Megaman X. It's responsive, frantic, and mobile, allowing you to juggle yourself in the air with glides, wall hanging, dashes and double-jumps. Combat is pretty fluid, and somewhat strategic, and you'll find yourself dying very easily if you don't know how to abuse your enemy's weakness. Now comes a minor gripe: enemy AI tends to be quite predictable, but I wouldn't hold it against the game. At the early stages, this means that the fewer enemies you encounter teach you their movement patterns, and you have the luxury of learning; at the later stages, they'll all be on screen at once, so you definitely need to put on your thinking cap or you'll quickly get swamped. Surprisingly, the story is pretty good, and has some twists. You discover pieces of the story through NPC dialogue, and mainly, the Diary entries. It's like the unveiling of a tragic story, for those of you who like a little drama. Cons Still, there's something to be said about the way the main quest is done. If you're like me and enjoy a slow walk in the park, this is not bad. However, it's quite hard to speed through the main quest because some of it involves grinding, so you'll probably have to prioritize character growth vs story progression. And that being said, sometimes the quests can be a little grindy, depending on how often you encounter the enemy you need, and how often they drop what you want. Of course, with procedurally generated dungeons that drop loot you need, this is always an issue. The devs are definitely still working on this though, because the drop rate has been increased as of this review, so it's not unbearable. That brings us nicely to the end: There definitely are some very minor bugs (non-game-breaking at all) and there needs to be some improvement to the UI (to inform your choice of weapons, for example), but other than that, this game is well polished, the controls are tight, combat is commendable, and is highly replayable. Plus, it's really affordable, compared to other titles. Hammer/10, would bang toys on my bedroom floor again.

There was a lot of potential in this game, but its flaws are too glaring, particularly in regard to the constant and unreasonably harsh night raids you suffer since very early on. A well-crafed patch could have turned this into an awesome title, but the game has been abandoned.

A must have if you love action rpg's random rooms, lots of upgrading and crafting. Lots of dying. It's a lot like the castle game where you die you build up your character type based on the tier system. It's got lots of unique bad guys weapons and the sort. Creepy music as well. Crying babies will be heard..

It was hard for me to consider whether to recommend the game or not. I decided to recommend, but if you are interested in the game, read until the end before deciding to buy. This is a metroidvania-like game with a different concept from what I've seen so far. While the idea and the game itself seems well done, it's filled with bugs and poor design choices. Frankly, I only recommend it for metroidvania platformer fans, and only if you do not care about achievements or finishing all side quests. If you decide to buy, only do it when it's on sale, with at least 70% discount. -------Pros------- + Decent graphics + Ambient sounds are well done + Great variety of enemies + Atmosphere is quite good + Decent story + Boss battles are unique and well done + Exploration is rewarding + Several weapons and spells + Interesting crafting system -------Cons------- - Random game-breaking bugs - VERY poorly optimized - Jumping is clunky sometimes - The sword is the only weapon that can hit all enemies - Some materials are ridiculously hard to get - RNG is poorly implemented - One side quest can't be completed - A lot of spelling mistakes - Achievements are obnoxious (completionists only) - Several annoying minor bugs - Game probably will never be patched - Side quests are boring - Can't change the equipment outside the base

Roguelite platformer, full of flavor and creativity.. I'm enjoying it a lot! Creative, charming theme and plot about keeping the house from succumbing to all the forgotten, unloved toys. Great balance between randomization and continuity. It's not like a complete randomization every night even if you die and the house gets reset, there are multiple threads of overarching progress. Long, sleek learning curve. The game is quite forgiving, but you'll be able to progress a lot quicker if you're great at platforming. As you learn new abilities, using them to the fullest actually becomes pretty difficult. The various weapon classes available make for pretty different playing experiences. High mobility, satisfying hero, especially as you keep upgrading his gear. You'll unlock the abilities to jump, glide and dash mid-air, eventually dancing around the enemies in time with their attack patterns. Gameplay key words: Looting, exploration, fighting, base building, crafting, upgrading, quests.
