This map editor is missing a lot a things to be playable.
Player/AI start location
minor races start location
Many bonus tiles missing in improvement choices
Nebula n'importe quoi
Scenario/spawn possibility
If the creator could address at least these, this game would be much more played and appreciated. 100%

You will notice that I have a ton of Stardock games in my library, and I have been a fan of the company for years. Unfortunately the company decided to change Galactic Civ II to Galactic Civ III with the only change being that consumers had to pay for content that was previously free. With the additional insult of charging people for the DLC map pack, I can only state that I feel a certain betrayle of trust, and I will never buy a Stardock Interactive game again. This was before Stardock made the crappy DLC free.

Not at all happy with Stardock, this should have come with the original game and not be charged extra for it. They have since released a map pack and this yes only gave three campaigns for the game. DO NOT BUY. it is soo not worth the cost of the original game plus this. Stardock is fast losing a fanbase due to corporate greed.

Short version: YES you should get this, but wait for a sale.
Longer version: Purchased this because I love Stardock and want them to make more GCIII content (and soon : P), but I hesitate to recommend it at the full $5 price tag. The folks at Stardock almost always price their products well (including emailing discounts to loyal buyers) (thank you!), but this particular piece of DLC seems to be a bit overpriced. The map editor IS a cool product, but it plus a few maps seems like a lot for $5. Now, I could very easily be wrong -- I'm not sure how much time went into the editor and maps -- which is why I purchased it for the full-price. But I think it's definitely in your best interest to wait for this particular pack to go on sale.
In the meantime, go play Sorcerer King : P. It's a lot of fun.

Unfortunately, this is not much of a map editor at all. In fact, if you own the DLC and expansions that came after its release, you won't be able to include them in your custom maps.
The features of a map editor that you are used to are not present in this $5 package, such as editing civilization starting positions, planet customization, building/improvement customization, placing units, and so on. If you want to crash the program, just change a planet's Class to 0. Yeah.
Lastly, who the hell charges people for map editors of their games? Why the asinine cheapshot in giving us a near-worthless product, Stardock, let alone charging us for it in the first place? What is wrong with you people?

Maps designed have an incredibly high fail rate, and no way of identifying why your maps won't load in the game. It's also fairly bare-bones for a map editor, let alone one that you have to pay money in order to use.

A Map Editor is a very nice addition to a game such as this one. The editor is very easy to understand making it usable by almost everyone, which also means that there will surely be a lot of maps to come. Though the editor lacks in customization, I would really love to see a way to customize planets to change their looks instead of being forced to change the type of planet for it to look as you want.
I can only recommend this if you are eager to make or edit maps, since it really lacks in certain things to make greater detail on your maps. I'll leave it to you.

I Love the Game, i Spend a lot of Hours in and i Think it will accumulate more, this is not my Problem.
I am incredibly disappointed from the Map Editor, not beacause you have to pay for it. I have not a Problem with a Map Editor who is easy to handle and spend a littel money for it.
My Problem is that i can not Create Planets which I would like to create, because you have no access to the Surface to Change the Combi of the buildable area. You cant also change the advantages areas, Like Military +3 or who is Sitting the Helios Ore.
And in the Editing of the Planets there are no description of the different bonuses they could have, this is so corrosive, confusing and unnecessary.
I am so massive angry, that i advise against the Map Editor DLC. The Description that i can Create my Own Universe is a joke.
The Content of the Planets is still random, and for that i dont need this Map Pack, im so .........

When most games release a map editor (ex. Civilization 5 WorldBuilder, which was free if I may add) they also include a scenario editor so you can place civs and units in the editor. In this editor, that feature is nowhere to be found. So you're telling me they couldn't give us the same tool they use to build their own scenarios? That seems kind of ridiculous to me. The maps in this pack are fine, but the editor lacking a feature that is so basic simply makes it not worth the money. I hope they see this oversight and add this function. If they do that I will be able to recommend this DLC.

This is a "Map Editor" in only the briefest sense of the term. You have virtually no control over anything that is placed, outside of planets and stars. And whislt you may think thats all you need to begin with, it soon becomes apparent that this is DLC of the sloppiest kind.
Nebulas? You would think you could sweep around and plonk nebula blocks wherever you like? Not true for this - you get "random generated" nebulas multiple blocks big, and you have to keep hitting and hoping until you get the dimensions and size you want.
Worse - you cant physically tell the map where to place certain races as starting planets, unless you use a workaround that was found -outside- of the game devs. And that works only with -major- races. Minor race placement is utterly random and seems to spam them closest your homeworld.
The user interface is all but non existent. Want to see stars only for placement purposes? Nada. Want to easily locate a star system you placed amongst hundreds? Sorry, go look for it again. Want to know what the planetary traits actually do when you assign them to a world? Sorry, you need to google them and keep the browser open in the background for referral...
These are the kinds of issues - a lack of user friendliness and customization - that make this a terrible map editor. Add on to the fact that it is also called a "Map Pack" but has only 6 maps shipping with it, and it is frankly a disgrace.
This is the perfect example of why people are tired of companies releasing DLC. Quick, easy, rushed rubbish that is thrown out there to sucker you out of a few quid, and hope enough fall for it before they read the reviews.
