The "contradiction" system is a great conceit. The satisfaction of catching someone in their lies is elevated by some charming FMV performances and great character work by the actors.

My second favorite FMV investigation game, Contradiction—the all-video murder mystery—demands that you maintain a high level of attention to detail and keep your senses sharp. You must pay attention to any contradictions from the people you interrogate as you try to solve the bizarre murder mystery that unfolds under unusual circumstances. It comes highly recommended.

It's exactly what the title says it is, "all-video murder mystery adventure." I found it similar to any of the supermassive games but much, much more basic and really only one path but the play style is alike. It ran great on the Steam Deck, no crashes or difficulty reading text. I didn't find a need for a guide; it's pretty much just explore/click everything. A few of the contradictions were not so obvious but not overly difficult.
There is no horror or gore, it's basically a who-done-it, think Clue or Agatha Christie for reference.
I picked it up on sale and feel it's definitely worth the sale price. Anyone who is a fan of mystery/interactive fiction should give it a try.

Words cannot express my love for this game. A very strange man rolls into town. He presents total strangers with irrelevant questions in an odd inflection. He solves a murder in six hours. This game hypnotizes me every time I play it. When I start it I have to finish it in a single sitting. It somehow immerses you so completely in the setting despite the sometimes hammy acting. I give it two paws up and ten poppy pods out of ten.

"Does THIS mean anything to you?" OuO
It took me a while to come back to this game and finish it. I really do enjoy FMV games and playing as Jenks was so enjoyable. His facial expressions and line delivery really kept me engaged. I wish the notes in-game were more organized. It can become a long list and there is a lot of clicking through but that's really not too bad overall. Just something to be aware of. The ending let me down a little bit but I still had fun with the journey. I was hoping there would be some sort of sequel but with Jenks but sadly there is none.
I would love to see either a continuation of investigating Atlas or another case all together.
Steam Deck-wise, this game ran smoothly.
Until then, I will be playing Baggy Cat's horror FMV game next.

A truly great game. Made me nostalgic more for old school television than old school games, and I imagine that's by design. I hope this game does well enough that the developers can make more. It's a wonderful experience.

My first game from this studio was At Dead of Night. In comparison the games are rather different, one terror inducing and the other: reading in between the lines of characters that repeatedly choose to exhibit inconsistencies between their dialogues and actions while simultaneously losing track of their self awareness. The plot contains just as delightful of a twist as At Dead of Night with a few enjoyable red herrings thrown into the mix. From a profiling perspective regarding the characters: most of their motivations, developments, and character arcs present as a little cliche, however, this doesn't take away enjoyment from catching some of the more "hidden" developments the writers sneak in. I highly recommend this game if you enjoy an altogether different video game experience for a standard point and click, enjoy catching duplicitous liars in their own web of contradictions, and need a change of pace to allow for a re-framing of the mind!

No spoilers, I promise.
This game gets a ton of slack because it's such an interesting project and we're starved for modern FMV and investigation games. The story is engaging, the characters are interesting, and the acting is charming.
However, to say the ending is "a disappointment" is an understatement. It's unbelievably dissatisfying. Most of the mysteries you've been unraveling have absolutely no meaning. By the end, your notebook is filled with several plot lines that have zero impact on the ending and get no conclusion. You randomly point out a mundane contradiction and the killer confesses for no reason.
The gameplay is often frustrating. The interface is terrible and confusing. Notes quickly become disorganized and overwhelming. There's a TON of pointless backtracking. Talk to one person, get a clue, then travel around and ask everyone about the clue. Even with fast travel, you need several clicks and short ~2 second cutscenes (that you've seen dozens of times) to talk to someone. It's like a walking simulator to slow down the pace of the game and stretch the playtime.
The main gameplay element is finding contradictions, but they're mostly stupid easy. You never cross-reference people's stories, so it's literally just calling a character out for saying one thing ("I'm allergic to ___") and then saying the opposite later ("Yes I took a pill of ____"). The contradictions only FEEL hard because tracking information is so difficult that you can't put the pieces together without slogging through your evidence bag.
Also, final rant point, you can't change the volume.
