The best way to be able to generate characters for yourself or others in Fantasy Grounds. It's similar to the traditional book, but does well at allowing you to filter and search more appropriately, letting you have open only what you need to use to generate and manage your characters. Some automation is quite nice as well, such as racial modifiers applying automatically, spell generation (largely) applying atomatically and other benefits appearing.

This is a must have if you are running 5e campaigns from FG. Can't imagine porting all this myself. It would take over a hundred hours to get this content ported. Good work fantasy grounds!

I fully recommend this for any DM or player interested in 5th Edition play. It contains the complete contents of the published Player's Handbook.

this is how you get dnd stuff in fantasy grounds, but it is incredibly frustrating how much basic class functionality doesn't "just work". the experience should be seamless, but there's so many spells / class features that have nothing programmed as part of your purchase, and you have to do them custom, or manually every time. it feels half-assed, but its full price, and is only useable inside of fantasy grounds which we also had to pay for.

I have only recently gotten into Fantasy Grounds, and I've been super impressed with the software. The Core Class Pack is a little pricey, but you're buying all of the content of the D&D 5th Edition Player's Handbook (MSRP $50), as well as paying for the tremendous amount of work that has gone into interactively importing it into Fantasy Grounds. There exist parsers out there that can incorporate the base rules, or the PHB (with a lot more work on your end), but this pack is very well done. The devs are helpful and active in the forums, they're continuing to improve the software and class pack beyond what it can already do, and using the software is a breeze. Getting comfortable with Fantasy Grounds takes a little bit of effort, but it's totally worth it. I use it for both running online games with friends across the country, and for its Combat Tracker and for keeping notes for my in-person games.

For people who want to make characters, or Dungeon Master's who want their clients to have everything, this is what you need to make your D&D 5e character. Considering the vast array of sub-races, and classes having a 'path' choice, the amount of material in this is staggering, and well worth the price tag. Think of it as the Player's Handbook in Database, and Wikipedia format.

I responded to ryawilli09 in the comments below, but it didn't show up. I will repost, but first I will post the two things you need to do to get started. #1: You have to update it from the game itself. Steam doesn't update it for you. However there is a problem where it might not pick up the update. If that is the case, try starting steam in adminstrator mode by right clicking steam.exe and choosing "run as administrator." In windows 8.1 64 bit it is found here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe #2: DLC doesn't show up on the home screen for FG. You need to create a campaign using the ruleset you purchased for--go to library (icon on the right after you start campaign)-click on modules---now you should see all dlc for that ruleset. Works the same in character creation. You need to load it into your library. They are doing a poor job of communicating how this works and potential pitfalls, and that is a shame. This information should be at the start or end of all DLC descriptions. Here is my post to him in case it doesn't load: "I had the same problem with the Road to Revolution campaign for Pathfinder. I eventually found a forum post that said I should start Steam in administrator mode. So I closed Steam, right clicked "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe" and chose "run as administrator." When I did the update it came through. After I closed steam and opened it up normally, it was gone! So I reopened it in administrative mode (steam.exe) and it came back. However, the last few times I haven't opened it in admin mode and it is still here. It is a good program. I am happy with my purchase, but it appears they have some bugs to iron out and not a lot of intuitive or immediately accessible help. Let me know if that works. I am curious how widespread that issue is. I run my applications from a Standard Account in Windows 8.1 64 bit btw."

Don't forget you need to LINK your Steam account to Fantasy Grounds for all of the DLC content to show up as "Modules" in Fantasy Grounds. To do that, launch FG and go into Settings. Under "Purchases" click the "Manage" button. From there you can link your Steam account and then your DLC content will show up.

For everyone who is wondering, this is the complete Player's Handbook for 5e. It was written by WotC and formated by Smite Works. It is streamlined with drag and drops for quick character creation, management, and maintaince. Also, if you click into it, you will find a tab called "Reference Manaual". This is the complete text laid out from the book, in case you feel like reading from cover to cover. A great buy to make offline characters for later loading. It's also great to buy instead of the hardcover. I further recomend it to Ultimate GMs as it will allow you to quickly look up spells and share the book with players for faster play times.
