I have never played a bullet hell game before, but I am having fun with this. No English subtitles, so I have no clue what is being said. I love the pre-2000s anime artstyle.

People complaining about censorship with this game are off base. For one, this is a port of the Saturn version, which was already *significantly* toned down in nudity and theme from the PCE-CD and especially the PC-98 version. You see, the PC-98 version has a rape cutscene after every level. You beat the level boss then you and your sister rape the pilot. Lovely, huh? And like a lot of PC-98 hardcore perv games, that kind of material usually stayed there on the infamous perv computer even if the games were ported elsewhere. The PCE-CD version removed a lot of the rape aspects to just imply it, and then the Saturn version made it even more vague and obscured a lot of the nudity. That's what this game is, a port of the Saturn version. But instead of obscured nudity, the characters are usually wearing some sort of bathing suit in this port. Personally I couldn't care less. The story is insufferably bloated anyway and I can't skip the cutscenes and in-level conversations fast enough. Along with all three versions of this game having varying levels of nudity and maturity, they all play a bit differently from each other as well. The Saturn version is much faster than the other two, along with some different enemies, bosses, and weapons, and it's also by far the best playing version of the three. This port does a good job with that as the controls feel quick and responsive and so does the game. Here's another thing other reviewers got wrong: The slowdown and screen freezing were in the Saturn version, it doesn't say anything about the quality of this port. If this is a emulation of the Saturn version and if the Saturn version has a few moments where you get slowdown, what do you think is going to happen here? The slowdown *is in the game,* it's not a hardware or port issue. Also, slowdown in '90s and '00s shumps is so common (some of it deliberate) that it's strange to even mention it. If you've played a City Connection shmup port before, it's the same basic options here. Select button on the controller brings up some control and screen options, and in those screen options I highly suggest leaving anti-aliasing and hi-res off as they just blur the image. Enjoy those nice sharp pixels. There's a scanlines option, and it's not terrible (horizontal only), but it's also pretty underwhelming. Oh, the game itself? It's fine. Gets a lot more frantic and exciting as it moves on, but really it's mediocre at best. It's one of those games where I hope you don't get attached to your weapons as it's downright impossible at times to avoid all the main weapon and sub-weapon pickups bouncing all over the screen. The bosses are pretty interesting in their designs and attack styles, but being a port of a port of an obscure mid-'90s PC-98 game (who's hardware came out in the early '80s, keep in mind!), it certainly lacks the attention to detail and graphical fidelity of arcade shmup powerhouses from Cave and Toaplan and Capcom. TL;DR: If you just care about the porn, go play the PC-98 version or watch some hentai. If you care about the game, it's a nice enough port of a mediocre game.

It works. It is censored even compared to the original Saturn version, but it's fun. It is a pretty unique experience with very generous bombs and super-emphasis on macro-dodging thanks to the boost. The Saturn version is arguably the fairest iteration of Steam Hearts. Regarding what got censored, looks like all the scenes and voice clips are intact. But the bosses are given clothes on many parts where they get stripped naked.

Originally a PC-98 release, later ported to PC-Engine CD and finally Sega Saturn. It’s a vertical shmup with sharp 16-bit graphics and erotic scenes between stages. During gameplay, characters talk among themselves, but sadly there are no subtitles for these conversations. The dialogue scenes before levels can take a while, but you can fast-forward them by pressing Start. The cutscenes are all static but fully voiced. Gameplay wise its not going to stand up to shmup classics from the 32-bit era (please purchase Ray'z Arcade Chronology on Steam) but it's still fun! And it has an ability that is essentially the Radiant Sword from Radiant Silvergun. The game includes modern features like rewind, save states, Steam achievements, and plenty of display options. There are also extras like boss rush and added difficulty options. Don't forget to turn off anti-aliasing in the screen settings so the pixels look clean. The game runs great out of the box on Steam Deck, I set the TDP as low as 4 and noticed no performance degradation. There’s been some talk of censorship, but the Saturn version this is based on was already censored heavily from the PC-98 release, this version adds some extra clothing to a few characters. Nothing here should stop you from enjoying the game or supporting niche releases like this. A content warning would have been nice with the Saturn version fully preserved, but this is also fine for me. Saturn Tribute releases are all high quality, this is an easy recommend if you care about this era of gaming.

game says it contains nudity, has no nudity. i get that city connection tried their best to avoid the AO rating in the US/Cero Z rating in Japan... but please keep the game as faithful to the original source material as much as possible! There's hundreds of porn games on steam... don't shy away from it, embrace it! the thing that bugs me the most is that city connection put a lot of effort in Game Tengoku, like they added english text both in the games in game menu and during cutscenes... why did City Connection not give this game the same love and attention to detail? anyways my rating 3/10 -cutscenes ares are just cutscenes/ no real effort to translate this game in english so unless you look up a guide you don't really have an idea of hats going on -no nudity, not even an altered image just blacked out screens. overall im disappointed in this port, Dont get me wrong, im fortunate that they even considered bringing this game outside of Japan...but looking back at their other games more specifically games like game tengoku it just saddens me that this game didnt get the love it deserves :(

Steam Hearts is one of those "if you know, you know" kind of games, with an interesting plot to say the least. Outside of that though, it's a decent but basic cult SHMUP from the early 90's. This version however is just awful and a lazy cash grab.

Dreadful emulation with lots of slowdown.
Missing sounds.
They censored a censored game even more.
"High res" and "anti aliasing" settings that just blur the image.
Can't even play without a controller.
An overpriced soundtrack and art book you have to amazingly pay extra for.
Save your money and just get a Saturn emulator and play it that way.

This game, whose Saturn version was already censored, has been censored again by City Connection to adapt it to new audiences and comply with Nintendo's policy for its release on Switch. All the efforts for this port are focused on censorship, and it stands out for being the first City Connection game to be poorly emulated, with occasional slowdowns and occasional moments where the screen freezes briefly. They have not dedicated any effort or resources to making improvements such as adding subtitles. It's worth noting that in other City Connection titles, such as STRIKERS 1945, you are given the option to select between home mode (censored) and arcade mode (uncensored), and the user decides what they prefer. It's shameful that they call this a Saturn Tribute, when in reality it's an insult to the original game and the users who have always trusted City Connection. From now on, I will think twice before buying another game from this company. I absolutely do not recommend buying this garbage. If you want to play this game, download a Saturn emulator or better yet, play the original uncensored PC version using DosBox.
