Good game. Gameplay loop is fun. I like saving the scientist people. Very nice balance between arcadey mechanics and more modern style. Also nostalgia because I remember playing this for hours on my playstation four as a young creature. Steam says that only Xbox controllers are supported but the Steam input thing makes the controls exactly how they are on the playstation so dw. Very replayable with the collectables and secrets. The bosses are challenging and interesting. Puzzle mechanics are present but feel natural and open-ended to a degree which I really like. Have not tried the pvp (because I only just found this on steam and I think the ps4 multiplayer servers shut down before I knew what they were). Overall: criminally underrated and unknown for something so dear to my heaert.

Quality game with plenty of content to go through. Aside from some frustrating moments, where a tiny drop of lava will kill you, it's a joy to play, collect stuff, discover secrets and just spent time with this game, it just feels cozy.

honestly a pretty great action puzzle game, there's only 2 parts of the game that I felt was too out of place, but still a great overall package.

Excellent 2D top-down physics-based puzzle-shooter.
BACKSTORY
- the original PixelJunk Shooter was released for the PS3, then the PC. It's available on Steam. It's a fairly short game. Enjoyable and innovative, but with some notable quality of life problems.
- PixelJunk Shooter 2 was released for the PS4 and Vita. It's *not* available on Steam.
- this Ultimate edition was first released on the PS4, then the PC. It combines Shooter 1 & 2 into one game, along with much improved visuals and quality of life doodads.
SHOULD I BUY PIXELJUNK SHOOTER 1?
No, there's no point. Not only does this package have far more content, but it's a much greater challenge, and has more creature comforts.
And if you prefer Shooter 1's flat look, Ultimate lets you switch to the original art.
PROBLEMS
- the game's age is showing. Fullscreen support is broken, and the game will only render at your native resolution. So, if you have a slow machine and play on a 4K screen, well, you're going to be playing at 4K.
- an achievement (Cave of Wonder) is borked, so no 100% for you unless you go all Rain Man.
- there are multiplayer achievements. Must be nice to have friends.
- the music -- Google informs me that it is "triphop" -- cuts in and out, breaks up. Long-standing problem, never fixed.
GAMEPLAY
Despite the years, there have been very few 2D shooters as innovative and proficient as this. The fluid simulation is a standout, and drives the innovation in the level design and gameplay.
The game starts off pretty casually: the original Shooter 1 levels don't pose too much of a challenge, and it's more of puzzle game than a shooter. But the Shooter 2 content introduces some formidable boss fights, and even descends in to bullet hell for a short while.
This is a long game. It has well over 100 levels/puzzles, and will probably take you over 30 hours to 100%. (If the achievement pops for you, that is.) There's a lot of value here.
Bonus points for homages to Namco and Konami.
VERDICT
This is a must have game for any kind of classic shooter fan. Get it.
