AER presents itself as a large open world that is just about as empty as it comes, unfortunately. It's a visually pretty game lacking any substance. While being able to fly anywhere feels freeing and the game seems to have a lot on the surface, the presentation only goes so far when you land on any floating island and there's just... nothing. At most you can find bits of lore scattered about, but the main world actually has very little going on.
I think my main problem lies within how the game utilizes certain cultural aspects for world building. As stated in an interview inspiration was taken from Native American legends (among other things), and while claiming to be respectful it is such a broad statement that does not give any specifics. Ultimately in the gameplay itself this just comes across as cherry picking any mythology that seems aesthetically pleasing enough to add to the games lore and mechanics.
However well-intended the developers may have been, AER quickly came across to me as appropriation and reinforcing the noble savage stereotype. I started playing the game anticipating a neat little novelty and went away being disappointed in both the lacking gameplay and tone deaf world building.
(Also, strange option to make the W key walk forward and then invert it while flying... but I digress.)

Peaceful exploration game, really loved the polygon and pastel color style, it felt like a successful experiment.
I just wish there was either more puzzles / interaction and a more active last level
good.
flying is chill, jumping and turning while running around can be a bit clunky.
did get confused at some points what and where exactly should i do.
bit on the boring side, but dont care, coz i got it on sale.
1 playthough is enough. not much to do or experience after finishing once.

Beautiful game. I've played through it twice now, well worth the time. It's pretty fun to fly around as a bird. Cute world to explore, the puzzles aren't very time consuming, and the puddle looking story is deeper than a sea, deeper than a free game would be expected to have. I really like The Void's eyes; someone needs to tell that big puppy that everything is gonna be okay!
