Great idea and setting, it feels like you are in a spielberg film however the actual gameplay is just frustrating.

While I do enjoy a nostagia trip like many others, I'm not going to pretend it's flawless. The difficulty curve is pretty high, some elements aren't really explained too well when it comes to characters and their abilities, and there was a parody of Duck Hunt that I feel aged poorly.

The first 2 hours are amazing. The first 2 chapters and the overall art-style of this game hooked me instantly. The soundtrack, the pixel art, the retro-style cartoon cutscenes and all those little pop-culture references are all well done, and they perfectly set up that 80s Americana feeling.
Alas! That was the only good things about Crossing Soul. The rest you'll get is a bland and uninspired adventure. It's served with a disappointing story, that has nothing interesting to offer. The characters are just archetypes, they do nothing to save the mediocre dialogue and writing. And the gameplay is even worse. The devs were so nostalgic about the 80s that they thought it would be a good idea to bring back to life the primitive arcade game design of the era. There were long forgotten for a good reason: infuriating bullet-hell mini-games and boss battles, with unskippable dialogues, rough controls and lack of checkpoint systems ARE NOT FUN.
I would've liked to do so, but I really can't recommend this game.
