Forestygian Steam Charts & Stats

I find this game to be fascinating. It carves so much design space out of such simple mechanics, and calls for deliberate decisions, both turn to turn and in which cards to pick. It's also very lightweight and runs are very fast, and characters range from very simple to very deliberate, which lets you decide how much you effort you want to put in your session, here's the pitch. -All the mechanics are well explained, icons are clear and allude to what their do, most items are grouped up quite cleanly so even if you don't immediately remember the specifics you can tell what they're up to (Food items give a combination of [max]mana/[max]health, items with a star on them spend health for a benefit, potion items restore some amount of health and provide that benefit). -Mechanics and previews are very useful, plus you can do undos in case a mechanic doesn't play out like you expected or you overlooked some thing. It really lets you maximize your odds of winning when you're in a pinch. -Very fast runtime, you can squeeze in a game very easily between other things. -The game is very minimalist in its visual design. I don't mind that as I find the mechanics quite enthralling, but your mileage might vary. It's such a small concept but so much has already been carved from it already, and I expect it will only squeeze out more as the game develops. I can still safely recommend it today.

Positives: Gameplay is smooth, engaging and enjoyable. The cards are interesting and motivates me to come up with strategies. I only managed to get hit by the enemy once during my first run, going with a glasscannon strategy! Now for some feedback, the game could use some juice! Things like: -Cards shuffling into your hand and other interesting animations -Enemy hits going "BAM!", make me feel it in me bones! -Maybe a change in music between the menu, fights and "Choose your path:" screen to give a change in tempo. Otherwise a really fun game, will be doing more runs! Been following this game at events for a while, and I'm super happy to see it released (and yes I did buy my own copy)! Looking forward to see how the game will evolve in the future, it's a good card game. :)
