DO NOT BUY THIS GAME.
This game doesn't run, the studio went out of business just after release so there is no support at all.
Look at the metascore - 30/100. Given what I read after searching for fixes, 30 is very generous.

First off it's not simple to get even the game running, in fact I had to install and to play it on my old windows 7 laptop, using also some fixies from the web because it does not work on modern computers, and apperently there is no support or instructions how to get it work from the developer (now defunct) or the pubblisher...
Second the game is bad and looks pretty unfinished, with boring and uninspired locations like the jungle and the tunnels that most of the times will look like all the same, so you will have the sensation to play the same level again and again... Also many times the camouflage traps can be hard to be seen on the surface parts of the game, and this makes it even more frustrating because auto-save checkpoints are not that common (you cannot save manually)... Also the iron sights of the weapons many times will not work correctly and the main protagonist will never shut up for the whole game, saying boring or stupid things most of the time (except when he insults communists of course, that's a good thing).
There are still a couple of not so terrible things in the game like a semi decent graphic (at least for a 2009 game), a not bad menu song, some violence and a depressive athmosphere, but it will all cost you almost 20 bucks when the game today should cost probably not more than 2 ...
I liked Velvet Assassin from the same developers, but this one definetely is not worth it.

I really like this game. Uwe Boll usually makes movies based on video games. In this case, I think he made the movie first and then the game. I recommend seeing the movie and then play the game. It's a good shooter and I love the Vietnam tunnels.

The Good:
You get to shoot Commies.
Uhhh... you can collect ears (Vietnamese) and dog tags (Americans) to gain more total health.
Did I mention you can shoot Commies?
The Bad:
Graphics are at best passable - character and weapons models are subpar, but some of the outdoor areas look nice.
AI is stupid - tactics consist of standing in position or charging at you.
Buggy weapons - knife hit detection is bad. Throwing hand grenades can result in grenades stuck in midair or your character throwing invisible grenades. The grenade launcher has the same problem. Ironsights are useless.
Certain levels had areas that appear to be unfinished - one outdoor level had a snake trap hanging in midair.
Traps get repetitive and annoying after a while.
You are forced to listen to your character's insipid, psychotic ramblings throughout the game.
Conclusion: You may as well throw your 20 dollars into the street.

Simplified: Uwe Boll quality
Tunnel Rats: 1968
The game is a classic fps first-person shooter. Story is not directly embedded on the film, but is mentioned here,
the plot is about one survivor who is in the NVA prison, which wakes up in the middle of the slaughterhouse. Who caused it? You will never find the truth.
The acting is average, but it doesn't change the fact that you will have a brainwashed. A game suitable for
schizophrenics
.
Enemy intelligence is absolutely stupid, enemies are spawning right in front of you. And when they see you how you hide behind an obstacle, they are literally helpless.
The graphics aren't important i think, but for year 2009 won't impress, but! the main problem is that something is wrong with the game. Absolutely all vegetation is missing If the license for the part of the used software SpeedTree technology : Interactive Data Visualization, Inc. expired at the time of release or has it been removed due to HW difficult? I don't know. Anyway, it's nice to see the difference between final game and the pre-release.
Compatibility: Don't expect to run the game on Win8/10. I only succes on old Windows 7, but I was unhappy about it because is it challenging for my PC about how empty the game looks.
Put your hands away. In this waiting for you tunnels maze, later quite annoying traps, stupid enemies, bugs. This product is not even worth a lousy 2 euro. And to want 19 euros for this? Oouuu... to hell!

With frequent glitches, terrible gameplay, dreadful cutscenes, and a loathsome main character, Tunnel Rats is a miserable experience from start to finish. The game’s few strengths are vastly outnumbered by its apocalyptic failures. It’s too short for the asking price, but also way longer than it needs to be.
The fact that this game still costs $20 is either an egregious oversight or a deliberate tactic by Steam to prevent more people from playing the game. It truly is a game worthy of Uwe Boll’s “stellar” reputation. Stay far away from Tunnel Rats.

It uses an older graphics card compared to the more up to date games and it has a very cool soundtrack. I bought this game for windows 8.1 about 3 years ago but couldn't play it. I have updated to windows 11 now and it actually plays now.

Bought this out of morbid curiosity and probably for the best it is completely broken. Literally just a runtime error crash on the first loading screen every time. Nobody was going to buy this but don't anyway lol

$20 is asking far too much for this game. Whoever's responsible for pricing this garbage doesn't deserve to keep their job.
It's a 3 hour shitfest, and that's including getting lost in level 2 and playing on Hard. It's an xbox 360 game that keeps all its 360-related code and content (achievement icons, controller info, etc.) but wasn't allowed to release on the platform.
Visuals straight out of 2001, except the flashlight casts shadows and there's some barely noticeable bump mapping. FOV is alright though.
Weapon handling is awful, none of the guns are worth using, ADS helps precisely 0%, staring at the ground and mashing the use key is mandatory to avoid floor traps.
Mediocre voice acting. Terrible story with a "twist" ending (hint: you get killed because of some bullshit) and a protagonist more worried about his daddy issues and his girlfriend than using the radio he has in his hands to communicate with the squad he's trying to catch up with.
If you have equipment newer than say, 2008, don't expect it to work. If you have a gaming laptop that has that hybrid NVIDIA and Intel GPU switcher or have only an Intel iGPU, it'll work (slowly) on that.
Recording for youtube is the only reason to ever touch this garbage, and I'll even say right on steam: Pirate it instead. Not like the development company is around to get paid for making it, they're bankrupt because of this.
