If you have played all the other top vampire survivor likes this might be something but I feel there are survivor likes that do it better. Meta progression is a bit too simple for my taste.

This game is only gonna keep getting better. Stand Survivors is probably the most interesting take on an auto battler bullet hell and hooked me instantly!

Omg this roguelike game is pretty fun. I bought the game while it was on sale, and then after reading some others' experience on Reddit tried it on my Steamdeck. It's based on the Vampire Survivors series, but it's a bit more interesting than that. You pick 8 "stands" (spirits that follow you around, similar to Jojo's Bizarre Adventure) to fight by your side and progress against the level. The hero merging dynamics are pretty intuitive, but when you discover a new combo, it gives you a really nice dopamine hit, as you discover new strategies mid-game. If you enjoyed the games below, you'll probably enjoy this too as a casual game to pew pew in. - Tiny Rogues (the progression mechanics are closest to this game i feel) - Vampire Survivors - Risk of Rain - Binding of Isaac (The game isn't as punishing though, once you start progressing past the first hours.) Note on graphics, which I liked: - I originally started playing on the Steamdeck. Later on I switched to playing on a big monitor using a dock and surprisingly the graphics look good on a big monitor as well! - Some of the graphics are ridiculously similar to Stardew Valley. I thought that was kind of funny 😂 Kind of like an unintentional easter egg.

TLDR I'd give it a 5 out of 10. It ran fine, concepts are pretty neat, art is fine, music is there, menu's tiny bit annoying, the randomness is absolutely positively obnoxious as is the excessive grind (in my opinion of course). TLDR out of the way, those wanting more... The Good Bits -- The Stand concept is refreshing. Effectively they're just 8 equipment slots, and you can bank more to swap in and out. Evolving them into different forms is neat. Being able to expand the map to sorta explore is also nice. The Neutral Bits -- Graphics and sounds are fine and fit for what they're going for. The menu's are serviceable, though found myself multiple times inadvertently closing the stand one because it's so easy to get into menus, then try to back out, only the menu you were in isn't the back up one even though you clicked. Occasionally could get stuck int he equipment menu. Having all your Stands standing around you sorta gets in the way of seeing your immediate surroundings when bobbing and weaving through enemies. Thankfully is a visibility setting for that. The Bad Bits -- Virtually nothing is explained, you're just dropped in there pretty much to YOLO it which is awful for a new player, even moreso one new to the genre. Thought the glossary would at least talk about the concepts and things, but it's actually just a collection tracker. Your evolved Stands losing unique properties of their base counterparts is irritating. Like having your blacksmith's ore bonus disappear when turning into an Engineer. The game is clearly designed to be a grind of epic proportions, which life is to short for me to doing that. Unless RNG really goes your way, the bosses are going to be basically unkillable in time until you slam your head into the wall several times to pump up your character's base stats. The rate of upgrading your character is agonizingly slooooooooow, along with a absolutely pointless currency conversion system. The God-Awful-And-You-Should-Feel-Bad bits -- While it's common for games in this genre to have obnoxious and frustrating RNG piled in all the wrong places for any number of reasons to pad play time and add artificial difficulty due to things beyond your control, this title is one that takes it extra far. Firstly, your Stands (aka Weapons) are random of course. So if you were buying up talents for a magic build, sucks to be you if you keep getting physical Stands. Sucks even more if you want 8 specific stands. Then you need multiple stands to merge them together, so better keep hoping lady luck stays with you. You'll also need the other stands that help it evolve also merged up, so keep those RNG dice rolling. Secondly, gear you buy also spits out randomly. Same as Stands, sucks to be you if you're going a physical build and you keep getting magic stuff. Can always reroll the gear type, but then you lack gold to expand the dungeon, and no telling if you'll get what you want until you commit to it. For extra insult to injury, when you merge two pieces of gear the blasted thing turns into a completely unrelated piece that could have literally nothing to do with the prior one. To this day, I'll never understand why dev's build these elaborate and colorful systems for players to use and then are cowards about letting the players actually play with the system without mountains of friction and RNG nonsense put in the way. That all said, if I hadn't already bought it, I would stay far faaaar away. Since I did buy it though and it's not unplayable levels of disrespectful of players, I'll probably slowly poke at it here and there with the hopes the dev's will clean it up more and reduce some of the completely unnecessary player friction in some patches. Cheers to any of ya that made it through that wall of text.

Ok. This game is good. And think it captured the essence of the Survivor genre in it's mechanics. You always have to upgrade something. The increasing number of evolutions is really done well. Game looks good also.
