Great addition to the game, a whole new mode to play with and some extra content for the base game. It's super cheap for how much it adds.

Excellent value DLC - they both are. Not worth getting if you haven't overcome the learning curve and managed to enjoy the base game, but if you have then it's essential. That said it's currently on such a massive discount that you should just get it.

i like this but a huge issue with it is that pirates ONLY attack you, it legit makes no sense and i couldn't move any of my armadas because of the barage from the pirate empire, i think the best solution is 1. make it to where i can attack the pirate base with my armade and 2. make the pirate fight other planets

I absolutely loved the concept for this DLC, however I HIGHLY do NOT recommend it. Seriously, read this before buying it or trying it. Why? Your mission is to sort of take over the entire solar system, to do this you need to build factories/mines for resources and then build fleets. Amazing concept, love it, but here's what will kill the game for you: If you want to build 50 factories, you have to do so one by one. Now this doesn't sound bad until you realize that you have to click on a planet, click on the property development button, then scroll down a list of buildings, find the building you want to build, click on it, fast forward until it's built, and then repeat the entire same process for the Processing (4x resources multiplier building for each new factory) Facility. Then do this 49 more times. On every single new planet. For every single type of factory you need. It gets extremely tiring and frustrating when it should be simple, straightforward, and fun. A solution to this would be a build X amount of factories button. Done. Problem solved. I have no idea why such a small quality of life solution was never put into the game. Now if you think that's annoying, wait till you see how you get to build and power up your fleet... You have to build the fleets then one by one click on every single fleet and then click on the power up/upgrade button around 9 or 10 times to reach 100%. For every single new fleet that you build, for every single fleet that gets damaged, every time. A solution to this would have been an "upgrade all" button and done. Problem solved. Again, it's beyond me why such a small but extremely important feature was not added to the game. Then you have to click on the annoyingly small button to send the fleets to specific planets, one by one again (a shift and click option to select multiple fleets for the same action would have been great here too). I love the game, I love the depth of it, but it's absolutely and without any mistake ruined by how unnecessarily horrible it is to play it.

It's a really good DLC and I would recommend it. The betrayal mode twists the games mechanics and presents you with the challenge of commanding a space army. It's a very fun and challenging mode (however sometimes upgrading the armardas can be a bit fiddley) and it adds even more levels of complexity. The other mode, invasion, isn't really my cup of tea. It seems a little similiar to the default mode except with an even more aggresive version of the burlusts. Regardless, it's an interesting mode and I think the majority of people might enjoy it more than me. Besides the two main additions, there are many other things added, such as brilliant new sound tracks, 2 different backrounds and new abilities. Overall I think this is worth the cost and I think it's a very fun DLC, after all: who doesn't want to command billions of robot armies and send them into battle?

Further evidence that Arcen has created a device that reads minds, when I was playing vanilla TLF, I found it quite fun with lots of replayablility. But I always thought (Mainly when dealing with the Burlust or Thoraxians), "YOU KNOW WHAT, SCREW YOU GUYS, IM GONNA FORM MY OWN FEDERATION, WITH BLACKJACK AND HOOKERS". So Arcen has then procided to make an incredibly cheap DLC that adds the "Betrayal" mode which lets me enact my power fantasy of destroying all those bloody thoraxians that think their too good for federations. Arcen, continue doing what you do best, making games that shit on paper but are actually really fun (Seriously, what sort of thing is a "Turn based bullethell"?)

For those who have struggled to keep the fragile peace between warring species and thought: I could do a better job of running a planet than any of you - now you can. Betrayal mode allows you to wage war with your hordes of mindless robots. If, instead you thought: What's the pressure of building up a federation? It's too easy and there's no threat. Now you have the Obscura invading and generally making life unpleasant for all involved. Two new game modes means you'll at least have a few more play-throughs of the game before you get bored. Also, if you're looking at this and haven't played the base game in a while maybe you should. Most of the changes (barring the new game modes) are included in the base game as standard updates. So any bugs you found are probably squashed, the mechanics have had an overhaul so they'll feel different. Also the updates never knowingly break save games so you could even carry on any old game you started and see how it feels and looks after a few months of polish. I do like Arcen games for the speed of updates, efficiency and creativity. I'm sure this will be a game to come back and play year-on-year. But you don't need to wait for it to get better, it's already there.
