As a Runescape player at heart, I've always enjoyed games that include different skills to level up.. upgrading gear and armor, etc. I found this game by chance. I'd never heard of it before but it looked intriguing. I'm not the type that plays games that are like Animal Crossing and such. They're too.. childish/bubbly for my taste. Starting this game I was a bit hesitant because of that expectation. However the more I've played it the more I enjoy it. It's honestly been so long since I've found a game that's actually worth putting potentially 100+ hours into and still have stuff to do. I know some reviews talk about it being "grindy" but coming from Runescape and being a skiller at heart, this is what I enjoy. Pros: - many skills (lifes) to train. Multiple types of combat styles to choose from too - the storyline isn't annoying. I'm the type to skip all dialogue on stories cause idgaf but this one is actually entertaining - most of the quests and sidequests aren't the typical "do X and bring back", "take A to B", or "kill X enemies". Most of them require you to train the different skills and find buddies (npcs that aid you) to progress. It's not complex but it is fun considering it doesn't follow most games - there are buddies (npcs) you find playing the game that you can team up with (up to 3 at a time) and they help with everything. Whether it's combat or needing help cutting down a tree there's buddies for that. You get them gear and armor to help them help you more - travel is very friendly. Whether you want to go to a different island, a specific location, a skill master (life master or whatever) you can just go instantly. Very efficient. Cons: - I'm a big wiki user when it comes to games and I have yet to find any solid or useful info on any wiki so far. I guess because the game is still so new that there's still a lot to discover. Which is actually kinda nice but also a tad disappointing. - It's primarily single player. For me this is fine because I'm a solo player anyways but it would be really cool if this was more of a MMO and you could team up with people or run into others while adventuring. You can however play with friends and stuff, yet I haven't done any of that so can't offer my opinion on that - Some of the animations are annoying. When you craft something there's always an animation when you finish and before it shows you the results of what you made (quality, quantity, stats, etc). This animation is like 5 seconds long which isn't a long time.. but when you're crafting like 100 different things back to back, having to wait on this animation without being able to skip it or auto-skip it is really annoying. Same with editing your own island. When you go into editing mode or exiting it, there's also like a 5 second animation each time. Why.. - Creating and modifying your island is NOT user friendly. Very strange considering this is a "cozy" sorta game where often people will spend a lot of time customizing their island/space to make it look cool or feel nice to visit. One of the very first things I noticed was when you place houses for your buddies, when you go to move their house as you begin to add new things to the island and you want to rearrange, you have to pay 1,200 to move a SINGLE house at a time. And it's not like you click the house, pay the fee (which why is there a fee???), then just move it. No.. that would be too easy. Instead you have to go into your guild office, talk to an NPC, pay it 1,200, pick which house you want to relocate, exit the dialogue, exit the building, go into editing mode, wait 5 seconds for the animation to finish, place the house somewhere, 5 second animation to exit editing mode, then wait for the house to be rebuilt..? So unnecessary. Should be free and one click, pick up, move, done. Should take 5 seconds to do the whole process but instead it takes like a whole minute to move one building.. plus the 1,200 for each house.

I love this game, I wish I could play it but I can't, as that would delete my daughter's savefile. A solution could be making another Steam account but I am not willing to take the inconvenience. Still, it's a great game, could be better with multiple save files.

Having played the first Fantasy Life on the 3DS, I've been waiting a decade for this game. There really are no others like it. Many different occupations, all with their own little mini game which you improve at over time, skills to unlock, fun little dungeons, etc. It's a worthy successor to it's predecessor, in my opinion. Give it a shot if you're even remotely interested. It's a nice relaxing time. Don't play for the story since it's short (hey unless you like short stories). Play for the simple gameplay of collecting/crafting/learning all the professions.

I am almost 300 hours in and honestly still have much more stuff for me to complete Fantasy Life i, and honestly, it’s a cozy little gem. If you loved the first Fantasy Life or games like Rune Factory, this one hits all the right notes. The game lets you switch between tons of “Lives” (jobs) — warrior, cook, angler, crafter, magician, you name it. You can fight monsters, gather resources, craft gear, and even customize your own town. The life-simulation aspect is relaxing but still gives you a reason to keep grinding. Overall after finishing this I can't wait to dive into the 3ds version and have another cozy moment with this series

If you like the grind, you'll like this game. Especially the 100% which feel like it would take hundreds of hours! The main game can be completed in about 40-60 hours depending on your pace and how much side content you do.

I don't write reviews often, almost never in fact. But I have to for this game, it is a hidden gem and we need more games like this. This game can be hundreds of hours of fun. Story is cute but very simplistic but the side content in this game is the major selling point. It is very grindy at times but rarely feels like a drag because you can quickly see your progress, farming the legendary mats at the end is one of the only groan points. The developers listen to feedback and are still providing patches. And a huge positive point for many: NO microtransactions in the game, even though this type of game could easily be monetized. If you are looking for a well rounded RPG that does more than just combat and story this is it. It is basically single player FFXIV, with some optional monster hunter/pokemon-esque co-op.
🏰 FANTASY LIFE i: The Girl Who Steals Time - Living the Fantasy Life!
What I Played: I delved into the world of "FANTASY LIFE i" and spent hours switching between various Lives like cooking, fishing, and battling monsters with friends online. The Good:

The freedom to choose different Lives is super fun! One minute I'm crafting, the next I'm in a heated battle. Keeps things interesting.
Teaming up with friends for monster-slaying quests adds a cool co-op element to the game. It's always a blast to strategize together.
The Bad:

I wish the tutorial was a bit clearer. I found myself confused about certain mechanics at the beginning.
Some of the job quests felt a bit repetitive after a while. More variety would've been nice.
Verdict: Recommended - If you're into a chill RPG experience with a mix of different activities and enjoy playing with friends, "FANTASY LIFE i" is definitely worth checking out. Just be prepared for some minor hiccups along the way.

Best Farm/Grind Multiplayer Dungeon Crawler. Ive played long time. Also the one time fee instead of constant micro-transactions.

Sigh... This would be a neutral review if I could make it one, but this deserves to be heard. I came to Fantasy Life i as a hardcore fan of the original 3DS title, and while yes I do think this is a fun and pretty sequel with an addictive gameplay loop and a ridiculous amount of content (as I would expect from a Fantasy Life game!) this is a game that holds some flaws that are painfully hard to overlook. If you want the good, read other people's reviews. As I said, it's addictive, and the early-mid game is very well done in my opinion. Also the crafting minigames are no longer quite as carpal tunnel inducing as in the original, which I am grateful for. As far as gameplay goes, it's the late game where you will start to see the problems that arose from an obviously conflicted vision for the game. I'm talking of course about the RNG and daily mechanics. There are a sizable portion of recipes which can only be learned through engaging with these systems, or have materials that can only be obtained by rolling a randomly generated dungeon over and over. The dungeon isn't particularly exciting when you're just looking for that one material, and there's simply not enough variety to keep the randomly generated layouts fresh. Likewise, the daily tasks don't feel very rewarding except for giving you a little currency for booting up the game every 24 hours and hoping you can get a restricted recipe unlocked. Neither of these systems are fun nor does it feel like they belong in this game! Similarly, I feel like the most compelling feature of the game, the open world continent Ginormosia, had so much more potential if resources from other areas were instead pooled into just that. I loved the world of the original Fantasy Life, I loved climbing up the mountain, searching the desert, diving into the winding caves and seeing all the unique landmarks that they could fit into a 3DS game. And the cities! They felt like places! HOW did we go from Al Majiik to this??? Despite the limitations of the 3DS, every corner of the word had love put into it, and I just don't see that in the structure of FLi's worlds, any of them. The cities are cramped and lack vision, their inhabitants are boring, and the environment isn't much better. The world exists to hold resources to be harvested and nothing more. I was extremely disappointed by the cave systems all following a blocky, procedural-generation-esque layout. Where are the set pieces?! This brings me back to Ginormosia having the most potential, and I hope that other people familiar with the game can see the vision I'm having here of the significantly better game this could have been, but obviously it's too late to reorganize the game's structure when it's already been reorganized a few too many times. For a game that I was so excited to see, I feel heartbroken to say that the vast number of QOL improvements (and a viable wizard class!) somehow aren't enough to make me recommend this game over the original 3DS title. The heart just isn't there. Also I wasn't even expecting to find the story interesting and yet that too let me down so hard don't even get me started
