if you were a fan of the game style between 1998 and 2008, this slots right in there. Halo, Doom 3, Dead Space... you'll find there's a lot that feels similar between them.

I can't begrudge NightDive Studios of their efforts and enthusiasm towards this project, but they couldn't quite save this game. It has not aged well over the years since playing it in the early 2000's.

squad mate system is cool.
The overall gameplay and the environmental storytelling is good.
Its not that scary, I didnt really get much of sense of danger anytime, sure squad mates can get infected , but somehow it didnt add up to anything special for me. There was really no need to take it easy on the ammo, there was plenty all the time, and all the weapons didnt really need to be there. Only smg and flamethrower is enough to blast through pretty much everything, maybe there was 1 or 2 situations where I used sniper and some grenades.
pretty short game But overall I liked it and recommend it when on sale.

I do really like this game but I have one big gripe
the game is far too easy: even on the hardest difficulty I never found myself struggling with the games enemies , whether it be the soldiers or aliens.

I missed it the first time around and I'm very happy someone decided to do a remaster! Super fun and just a great throw back to the way games use to play. I am very happy, plus this is as close of a true sequel we will ever get to John Carpenter's cult Classic The Thing (1981). Thank you very much developers for letting an old man be a kid again! :)

Has anyone playtested this at all? I realize that the original game was not a pinnacle of game design by modern standards, but come on, at least don't make it worse.
Time and time again I found myself having to fight big monsters without a source of fire. Sure, in some cases that is intentional because we need to solve the problem in some other way, like trapping the monster, and those were in the original game. But at least in some cases I found deviations that make the remake less playable. For instance,
In the room with two furnaces after an elevator, you were supposed to trap a walker among the crates. Problem is, the remake added another walker to the same room for some reason, even on normal difficulty! Consequently, the indented way to solve the room doesn't work anymore and you have to resort to ridiculous solutions to actually progress.
And stuff like that is everywhere. Sometimes you have to backtrack an entire chapter to get a flamethrower because there is not a single fire-related item in a building jam packed with walkers.
Oh, and the lighting. Again, it wasn't great in the original either, but that's something that's easily fixable! Instead, we are forced to constantly run into dark camouflaged enemies in dark rooms, with the crosshair being the only reliable way to even know where they are. Sure you can turn gamma all the way up, but then recreating the ambiance will be left entirely to your imagination.
