It took me a long time to realise that this is the best 4x game I ever played.
After Civ 7 failed to hook me I returned to this game and it is just wonderful.
(I played a lot in offline mode. Playtime is not accurate)
I hope that Endless Legend 2 manages to surpass it. Even when it is on the same level it will be a great game.

“ENDLESS™ Legend” might look similar to Civilization or Age of Wonders at first glance, but it plays quite differently. If you're a fan of combat-heavy gameplay, this might be right up your alley. However, if combat isn't your thing, the experience could be less enjoyable, as nearly every victory type demands a substantial amount of fighting.
Unlike Civ, where peaceful strategies can thrive, Endless Legend makes it difficult to succeed without eliminating a large portion of those you encounter. While it's technically possible to avoid conflict, most quests require combat, whether directly or through objectives that involve clearing regions. Diplomacy is also challenging—factions are highly aggressive and will frequently attack, often breaking treaties impulsively once they strengthen their armies. This design can make non-combat playstyles feel frustrating, especially since victory conditions like Quest and Science are achieved by a small percentage of players (3% and 5.2% on Steam, respectively). It could suggest that most players resort to combat simply because other paths feel like a grind.
The combat itself, while serviceable, didn't feel as engaging to me as it does in games like Age of Wonders, where battles allow for more tactical control. In Endless Legend, you issue attack commands, and units handle the rest on their own. It wasn’t terrible, but it didn’t quite capture my interest over time. That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy parts of the game—I got many hours of fun before I grew bored—but I struggled to find elements I truly loved.
Customization, for example, felt limited. While you can create custom factions, the options don't allow for deeper personalization, such as tailoring the appearance of your kingdom or diversifying your units. Personally, I’d have loved to make half my soldiers women instead of the rare handful present in most factions.
Overall, Endless Legend offers an intriguing mix of systems and storytelling, but it didn’t quite click for me despite playing multiple games to try different victory types. However, it's far from terrible and I later edited the review to make it positive, if barely. (5/10)

A game that lured me in with its beautiful maps, unique factions, and the promise of a grand strategy experience. And for the most part, it delivered—right up until the moment I realized I was trapped in a never-ending late-game purgatory, micromanaging so many things that I started to question my own existence.
Let’s start with the good: The factions are fantastic. The Vaulters teleport around like sci-fi wizards, the Cultists refuse to play by anyone’s rules (even their own), and each race feels truly distinct. The early game? Chef’s kiss. Exploring the map, building up my empire, and engaging in some light skirmishes kept me hooked. The mid-game? Still strong, still engaging. The late game? That’s where the wheels started to come off.
You see, there’s a fine line between “deep strategy” and “I’m now the unpaid manager of a medieval fantasy bureaucracy.” By the time I was juggling city districts, army movements, research, diplomacy, and trade routes, I wasn’t having fun anymore—I was just filing paperwork. Even my eventual victories felt like an exhausted sigh of relief rather than a triumph.
So, after two playthroughs (and what felt like an eternity in turn-based years), I think I’m done. It’s a great game, but it demands time. And patience. And probably a second monitor just to keep track of everything.
Would still recommend to anyone who loves unique factions and deep strategy but has the endurance of a marathon runner.

this is too much. the screen is full with numbers. i dont know what to press. and the tutorial is not helpful. theres no story Campagne either. theres nothing to ease you into the mechanics or different rages. it just throws clutter at you and demands "now land the plane!"
i just cant.

Takes everything one loves about 4X games, and does it right! The graphics are beautiful, the music is hypnotic, and the game is complex enough to keep one interested without getting frustrated. From the opening prologue, the game immerses the player in a compelling and unique world that is rich in lore. It is starting to show its age in 2025 but still worth playing if you have not already tried it.

A rough diamond of the 4x Genre, it dares to be crazy fir better and for worse. It has its faults, such as combat being a major weakpoint, but its these untested method that make this such a fun game to play. They have the Syndrome philosophy of "If everyone is overpowered, then no one is", and it works. One faction can teleport armies across the map, another can full heal armies after battle for a bit of cash. Each faction is unique and interesting.

ENDLESS™ Legend is a masterpiece of 4X strategy, offering deep, engaging gameplay, stunning world-building, and a unique fantasy-meets-science-fiction setting that sets it apart from other games in the genre. With rich faction diversity, innovative mechanics, and a breathtaking art style, this game is an absolute must-play for strategy fans looking for something fresh and immersive.
The factions are incredibly unique—each one has distinct playstyles, abilities, and even different ways of interacting with core game mechanics. Whether you’re leading the Broken Lords, an ethereal knightly order that consumes Dust instead of food, or the Necrophage, an insectoid race that can’t form alliances, every playthrough feels completely different, adding endless replayability.
The world generation is one of the best in the 4X genre. ENDLESS™ Legend crafts diverse, breathtaking landscapes, with lush forests, vast deserts, frozen tundras, and towering mountains that aren't just beautiful but also impact gameplay. Terrain plays a huge role in expansion, combat, and resource management, making exploration feel rewarding.
City management and empire-building are deep yet accessible, striking a great balance between complexity and ease of play. Researching new technologies, optimizing your cities, and managing population growth all feel meaningful and rewarding, with a dynamic seasonal system that forces strategic adaptation.
Combat is a standout feature, blending turn-based tactical battles with grand strategy elements. Positioning, terrain, and unit abilities all matter, making battles more than just a numbers game.
The storytelling and lore are another highlight. Unlike most 4X games, ENDLESS™ Legend delivers rich narratives, quests, and faction-driven storylines, making you feel connected to your civilization’s journey.
While the AI can sometimes be inconsistent, and the late game can feel slow, these are minor drawbacks in an otherwise outstanding strategy experience.
If you love 4X strategy games with deep mechanics, immersive world-building, and unique factions, ENDLESS™ Legend is one of the best in the genre.
Rating: 9/10 – A breathtaking and innovative 4X strategy game with incredible depth and atmosphere.
