The controls are not intuitive and the narration is drowned out by the music.
For me, controlling the fighter/mech was impossible and combat was suicide because of the lag in responding to my inputs.

A game from a bundle that's been in my backlog for years. I'm glad I finally got to it, though.
It's more of a spaceship piloting game than a mech game, but with that in mind it's pretty good. There's a relatively short campaign, during which you'll mostly use the titular strike suit ship. I enjoyed trying out the different ships in stage replays (to get upgrades) or the DLC missions. The bomber and the different suits are especially good.
I don't know how it compares to the likes of Ace Combat or other such things for hardcore flying fans, but I personally quite liked how I didn't spend the whole game just dodging missiles and nothing else. The controls took some getting used to, but make sense once you've used them for a mission or two. The big battles were also pretty neat, if slightly repetitive in terms of objectives. This would make a solid multiplayer experience, though.
The story wasn't too memorable or fleshed out, but it served its purpose. It's inoffensive, though I raised an eyebrow at a certain plot development near the end (nothing you haven't seen before if you've played some sci-fi, but still).

So you take the weird, uncanny universe and aesthetic of Homeworld, and cram Macross into it. Those are the two strongest vibes I've ever gotten from this game. The music? Homeworld. The suits? Macross. The dialogue? Homeworld. The artstyle? Macross.
I mean, listen to the soundtrack of this game, then listen to Homeworld's.
Watch the strike suit transform, then look up a veritech fighter transforming.
peak gameplay too.
