I see what the dev was trying to do here, and while I cannot recommend it I will be constructive and point out the positives as well as the problems. Who knows, perhaps other players will get more out of this than I could.
Overall, it is an extremely simplistic 2D explore hack 'n slash with a story. So simplistic that it is effectively just left, right, jump and slash. And your slash only has one move, with no enemy context.
The charm is in the large sprites, especially the main character which have an old-school arcade feel, and the effort with the story which tries to offer lore, background and atmosphere. The delivery, via a ghostly 'friend', is text-based, and can get a bit annoying but somehow I found it kind of cute.
There is a lot of running around doing nothing followed by either easy fights or fights where it's hard to avoid damage because your one slash isn't useful until you get to the best position against some of the enemies. There are some jumping platform sections which are well implemented and fairly decent exploration / pathfinding for a 2D side scroller, but the respawn points can take you far backwards meaning a lot more walking and repetitive fights. There are a few bugs and glitches too, but not game-breaking ones that I saw.
I'd guess that this is a first-time proper project which, if so, will have proved some code theory and game design for the dev, and I very much wish them well in learning from this early attempt and reaching for higher complexity and satisfaction for future endeavours. For most Steam gamers, this is by no means a $5 game but if you want to support a dev, it's not completely awful on a sale.
