Difficult game to recommend or not.
The game has amazing world building and story. It isn't afraid to talk about some pretty dark themes regarding dogma and religion etc. When there is voice acting it's pretty good.
That said, the combat is pretty tedious and annoying. I was doing fine with this until i got into the canyon where you discover fighting groups of enemies results in you getting melted in seconds. On top of this, if enemies are spellcasters they will run around making it very difficult to run them down as a melee player. I switched from greatsword to dagger and shield, this meant i hit more and i could cut down the melee dog men pretty quickly, for the shaman fire ball casters i used a bow. Okay cool, I have solved this problem. Next up, the Brigand Camp. Welcome to another tedious zone, you are getting chased by 7 or 8 melee fighters while 3 - 4 bowmen take pot shots at you from a distance. Dagger and shield combo wasn't working. Kiting is not working (also, kept accidentally exiting the zone in my kiting attempts). I ended up googling what the strat here is and basically with this game, you are expected to use everything. Specializing in melee, ranged or magic is only going to hinder, you need to be a jack of all trades. So i do the strat in the steam guides, i switch to my earth wand and cast tremor. With some kiting around and casting i got the brigands. But it makes me think the whole game is going to be like this and the problem is i haven't built Alita to be a jack of all trades in order for this to be effective.
i think this is a great story and world trapped in a game that is annoying to play, unfortunately. I may end up powering through just because i want to see where this goes storywise. According to an online walkthrough, I am roughly about halfway through (totalling at about a 10hr, playthrough) but idk that i would recc this to 99.9% of people.
