Descent: Freespace 2
The War Continues
Freespace 2 is the second game from Interplay and Volition, continuing the story after The Great War. Set two years later, the Shivans return, and the fleet—cut off from Earth—is tasked with capturing a traitor who has defected to the enemy.
Once again, the game delivers a fantastic experience. Even today, the graphics still hold up surprisingly well, and there are excellent mods available to enhance the visuals all the way up to 4K. While the first game was also great, Freespace 2 remains my favorite. The missions are well-designed, and the storytelling is strong. Just be warned—some missions can be quite challenging!
This is definitely a game worth playing. It's unfortunate that the series was discontinued, but thanks to the amazing modding community, there’s still plenty of content to explore. From Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica to Wing Commander mods, there's a wide range of experiences available using the Freespace 2 engine.
There’s still a lot of fun to be had with this game—whether you're revisiting it or discovering it for the first time.
