I didn't finish the game. This VN started off interesting and engaging but the more I played the less invested I became in the characters, It got to the point where I was just clicking through only half reading the text to get to parts of the game I actually cared about. It's bad when the most exciting thing in the game for me was that the main character and I both use the same trackball mouse. I would suggest passing on this one.

This game blew away my expectations. I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into, but I'm glad that I picked this game up when I did. The story itself is amazing. There were parts where I felt that there was some over explanation of the situation kept happening, but overall the game kept my attention and really had me questioning if it was a real scenario or not. I won't put out spoilers for the game, but towards the end, I think I got a little confused as to what was going on because it felt like the story had shifted quite a bit towards the end. This game brings up several topics that really interesting discussions if you like wracking your brain over whether certain situations are real or not. I highly recommend this game to anyone that's looking for something interesting to throw at themselves. The graphics are beautiful and of course, Nana & Sakiko are best girls in this game. <3 Thank you Child-Dream & Mamekujira for making such a beautiful and interesting game. I'm pretty obsessed with Child-Dream's Scar of the Doll, and became even more obsessed with it when I read over the history of the game. Originally made using RPG Maker 95 and picking up steam via word of mouth in the mid-90s, the game is a wonderfully tight mystery thriller that speculates on the then fresh societal fears related to genetics. The game goes totally off the rails in the best way possible, surprising the player at every turn to a bizarre and satisfying conclusion. ANGEL WHISPER originally came out in the late 90s and focuses on fears of the new millennium and the introduction of the internet into society. Like Scar of the Doll, the game tackles then current social issues, goes totally off the rails in the best way possible, and surprises the player at every turn to a bizarre and satisfying conclusion. The translation is a bit better than Child-Dream's Scar of the Doll remake. The pacing would be tedious without the helpful hint button that clues you in on the main character's motivations at any given moment, otherwise you'd be looping through ten locations after almost every encounter struggling to trigger the next cutscene. For me this makes the narrative feel a little baggier and unfocused, but that's also part of the magic here. With the broader story and play area comes a more ambitious approach. Every character has a back story or some motivations that carefully unravels, showing much complexity as the mystery progresses. When the actual threat begins to reveal itself, everything unexpectedly shifts as most characters show their true colors. I don't think I liked ANGEL WHISPER more than Scar of the Doll, but I definitely think it's a great narrative that deserved to be preserved with this remake. The palpable turn-of-the-millennium fears tied into the idea of gaming as a revolutionary medium is positively enchanting, worth every moment of your time.
