Never played the original before, so was interested to see what this had on offer. Wasn't disappointed, to say the least.
This is a pretty fun hack and slash that I can see myself revisiting in my own time due to my hack and slash/beat em up bias, but it also feels like the textbook definition of a 7/10. It's fun, has great elements, but also has a few problems that hold it back from being great or amazing.
Gameplay is the main positive of this game, and it's definitely the highlight of the entire experience. Slashing through zombies is really fun, and the extra combat features such as the Nick Roulette and the gauge I forgot the name of to activate the Devil Trigger equivalent I also forgot the name of are also good fun. The main bosses also look like Death Note characters or edgy MySpace OCs and it was pretty funny. There's just one problem, and it's that Lollipop Chainsaw is easy as shit.
You will never die in this game unless you're really bad at it. I only died twice at the end of the first level because I hadn't entirely gotten to grips with the combat at that point, because zombies are almost never threatening otherwise. Chop off their legs and at that point they are essentially already dead. Unless you don't see them, it's very unlikely that when they're crawling they'll actually hurt you. Sure, the damage they can do adds up and they're a pain in the ass in groups, but you can have up to 5 lollipops to heal with and they're cheap as fuck, so you will never run out and ultimately never die. This ultimately doesn't affect the fun of the game, though, because it's still really fun to slice and dice them apart and look cool while you do it, that and I'm playing on the standard difficulty as of writing anyway.
Levels are pretty long, but despite that move a mile a minute. Stuff is constantly happening to make sure you're engaged, and it usually works pretty well for the most part. It never really sinks in how long the level is actually going on until you get to the end and see the level timer. In particular, when I saw the farm level took me 40 minutes I was honestly shocked at how long it'd lasted. I'd prefer them a little shorter, but it's a minor problem more than anything.
I didn't skip any of the cutscenes so I wasn't confused on context, but the story was fine, it's mostly just an excuse for the zombie action. The writing as a whole is mostly okay, the funny moments can be pretty fun, but sometimes it leans too hard into being edgy and kind of loses its charm. Swearing and sex jokes are funny, but eventually it just becomes expected and boring like a Vivziepop show when the humour is a 50/50 split of being pretty funny and sex jokes. Unrelated to this part, but it also took me two hours to notice Juliet was voiced by Tara Strong, and only realised because something in her voice sounded slightly familiar to me at one point.
Speaking of audio, if I had to pick my main problem with this game would have to come down to the presentation. The game ran perfectly fine, but the visuals themselves do not hold up. This game looks pretty ugly, faces and models look too shiny yet too clean at the time and a lot of the animations feel really stilted at some points. In particular, Nick's face during Nick Toss looks like a fucking Garry's Mod shitpost from 2014, it's terrible looking. Characters will also just pop out of existence when you save them and some cinematics between gameplay look really cheap and lack any sort of impact or oomph. I'm shocked they didn't try to upgrade the visuals of this 2024 rerelease of this 2012 hack and slash game in some form, it looks really cobbled together and cheap sometimes. The aesthetic and UI looks great, but the loading screens are extremely low quality too and it's super distracting. I know a lot of games at the time did kind of have these problems with their visuals, but it's extremely embarrassing that Devil May Cry 4, a game from 4 years before this with an infamously low budget that released on similar hardware, looks better than this game.
Audio isn't as bad, so I don't have as much to say, but still not great. The mixing is so strange and audio can overlap with other audio and make dialogue messy, not helped by subtitles either being on screen too long or not long enough. That, and my point about some events lacking the oomph they need is not helped by the audio. A truck crashing should not look and sound this empty. I also could not remember any of the songs if I tried, they're aggressively alright but super forgettable.
With all that said, would I recommend this game? Yeah, sure. It's not the best in the genre, but it's a fun time that has plenty of charm. It's also another late 2000s/early 2010s piece of media about zombies, if you're looking for your 27th game/movie/show of that variety.

This game is fun. Juliet's chainsaw combos are easy to master and she's a fun and funny character to play as. The story is your average zombie-killing high school cheerleader, the bosses are bland and a little too easy to kill.
My strongest complaints are mainly about technical stuff. Rarely, the controls are glitchy for a split second, which has gotten me killed at pivotal moments (mainly in that virtual reality segment where you have to climb the building in a gondola).
This matters because the game doesn't have traditional "saving"; you can only go back to certain checkpoints while you're playing, but what's worse is if you exit the game entirely (or it crashes) without beating a level, you have to start that level over from the beginning when you relaunch the game. Thankfully the longest level is ~45 minutes for an average player to beat (the shortest is ~10).
Also even when they work, the environmental interactions are...strange. There are times when jumping over an object requires just approaching it head-on; other times by pressing B; other times by press X (and again, here sometimes the controls glitch).
Quality faults aside, I recommend this game, but you'd do better to wait for it to be sold for under $15 before buying.

Its a blast to the past, is truly a good remaster, just mod the old music in, and if you have an ultrawide monitor, theres a mod for ultra wide support, theres really no need for anything else, if you played the original, with these mods is as beautiful as you remember it

Gonna keep it 100... This game is a lot worse than I remember it being, albeit I was 15 and stoned out of my gourd. Worth wasting a few hours on? Sure, if you get it on sale.

Is it worth 45 dollars? No. Is it the same game as we remembered it being a decade back? Yeah, kind of. The soundtrack isn't the same unless you mod it into the game. The game feels slightly more clunky or even more delayed than it did previously also. The same bugs it had before are still in the game where sometimes Juliet can get stuck and you can only get out with doing a special. This game even being on PC and getting a "remake" is nothing less than a miracle though, what a true gem and send off to a better time in gaming. Now turn on Two Best Friends Play on your second monitor and remind yourself that you would of never had a single chance with Jessica Nigri.

Fun arcade game with non stop action and a lot of zombies. Comedy is on point, great amount of combos and satisfying to use them, a lot of skins, maps are wonderful and voice acting is fantastic, characters have neat design as well as zombies. The game also constantly breaks the 4th wall and it doesn't try to take itself seriously, it's pure fun and extremely dumb.
However, it's barely a remastered, it's short as all hell (5 hours maybe even less) it lacks a lot of QoL and the only reason to replay it is for the achievements, and even then you won't even hit 15 hours, there are also a lot of QTEs that don't matter since even if you don't press anything, your character will still do the action. Anything more than 20 bucks for this is unacceptable, buy it on sale.
