Great game and also has new visuals for the 2 D overhead views that I've never seen before.

this is not a game to play after work to relieve some stress, but the dopamine hit after a victory is good, better than my wife asking me what do you want to eat. As the man with the voice of God says "There is a sickness in the ancient, pitted cobbles of the Old Road, and on its writhing path, you will face viciousness, violence, and, perhaps, other damnably transcendent terrors." Couldn't have said it better myself, so, steel yourself, and remember, there can be no bravery without madness. Because the Old Road will take you to Hell, but in that gaping abyss, we will find our redemption.

oh Man! This game is addictive. If you like roguelikes and rpgs, you will love Darkest Dungeon. It has a methodically team crafting (create a team of 4 with 17 pre made heroes), tons of trinkets to collect to empower your heroes, difficult bosses to beat and amazing side content to indulge in. Darkest Dungeon will consume your time if you aren't careful, also don't get attached to any of your heroes!

I recommend this one, but with some caveats
The positive aspects of this game are widely praised, and for good reason. That being said, I do have some gripes with the game. To give some context, I’m a player with limited time due to life commitments, so this game works well for me. It's nice to just have it running, pause, and come back to it when I can.
What I can't quite wrap my head around (and honestly, find frustrating) is how RNG-heavy the game is, especially when you're thrown into events and late-game dungeons with no guidance and no way to escape without losing a character. Given the time it takes to level up your toons, gather trinkets, and figure out team synergies, this feels poorly thought out. It basically forces players to keep multiple backups of the same class just to be safe. While it's a time sink that's usually fun, it gradually turns into a chore, especially in the endgame. I also have to add that a complete run of the game takes very long !
I don't think this gets criticized enough, so I wanted to leave my thoughts here.

Not bad roguelike turn-based role-playing game!
6/10
+ Great visual style.
+ Great music and sound effects.
+ Great voice acting.
+ Great dark fantasy atmosphere.
+ Good storyline.
± Hardcore gameplay.
+ Good turn-based combat.
+ Lots of heroes, enemies and artifacts.
- Bad game balance (even on easy difficulty, some enemies will take multiple turns out of turn, and enemies will often focus on just one hero and kill him quickly).
- Hellish random (victory does not depend on your skill or hero characteristics, but on chance, who will be luckier, you or your enemy, who will be the first to do a critical hit, who will miss, etc.).
At first glance, this is a great game, but the more you play, the more you realize that the game is difficult not because of the tactical battles, but because of poor balance and randomness.
I'm a big fan of games with hardcore gameplay, but this game I can recommend only to masochists!

Ye this WAS a good game, then they randomly threw in the EULA that's basically a giant middle finger to me for playing, and I keep forgetting that I refuse to agree to something so ridiculous and can't launch the game anymore lol it's a game, keep my 12 dollars and your gross and invasive contracts to yourself and license it properly instead of putting your responsibilities on me, losers.

Listen, I fully understand that there is a whole audience of people who love games like this and the ruthless suffering that it evokes even on normal difficulty. However, that is what this game is, in my opinion. This is a game built on making the players suffer massively and the good feelings a player is supposed to get is when they manager to get by.
I get that there is a whole world of optimization and trinket farming and management and class structure and skills and everything in the world. I get that you can read the guides and the wiki and the videos and keep plugging away and eventually figure out at least a little bit.
I still hate it. I hate how much this game wants you to suffer. From the theme and artwork to the gameplay and regularly losing characters you invested in and losing money and managing stress and bad quirks and diseases and afflictions. Everything about this game is antithetical to what I think is a good time and on those grounds I wholeheartedly do not recommend it. There are much better ways to spend your time in this world than relentlessly throwing yourself into repeated suffering and struggle. I have enough of that in my life, thanks.

It's a neat game, but it's just too hard for me to recommend to the average person. Even the "easiest" difficulty has provoked more gamer rage tears than the rest of my gaming history combined.

i started out rough, but once i managed to get a hang of the game, it became incredibly fun. granted, the rng still whoops my ass, but when it does work out in my favour, i swear by the light, i feel like a god. definitely nerve-racking and rage inducing at times, but is pretty well put together. not to mention the writing and the art, they're so well done that alone makes the pain worth it.

Let my thumbs down not dissuade you, I can feel that I have a poor temperament for this game. There's probably someone out there that loves the meticulous planning, being able to lose a dude you poured countless resources into you, surviving the harsh RNG.
I am not that person.
If you like roguelikes and want a reasonably hard one, this one should be quite good. I like the art, and music. Narrator is great too though talks a bit *too* often for my tastes.
