I sincerely do not know why all the hate. Take a look at my profile, I'm playing way too many early access titles right now so I think I can make a decent review of this game. Combat is a lot of fun, holy hell. A little janky when it comes to mouse clicks but that will be fixed and it is still so fluid and satisfying to watch. Crafting is very easy although I would love a search function. Building is super satisfying and quick since inventory is right off the bat and I haven't hit a weight cap yet. Haven't even gotten into the story at all because I just keep running around and hunting and crafting and building. For being a small developer indie game that just hit Early Access, I'm having fun and that's all I could ask for and I'm sure it will just get better and better. TLDR, ignore all other reviews and just try it. For 11 bucks just suck it up and try. Runs great on a laptop connected to a 3440X1440 monitor in full res at ultra settings averaging 65-85ish FPS. And if the developers read this, just keep doing what you are doing, it's a ton of fun. Lenovo Legion 5 Pro 2023 Intel i7-13700hx 8gb 4070 LAPTOP gpu 32 GB Kingston Fury Ram

No dodge only jumping, no mouse sentivity option, UI from 2005, text overlapping on translation, no language option, feels very jank and doesnt feel unique or that it has identity. Its not souls-like, doesnt even come to mind. however if its still very very early and if its not even the start, then this has potential. the idea of a build/crafting "souls like" is fantastic, and I hope the dev or devs keep working on this. Leaving this review as a positive for the steam sale leaving it on a 1€ purchase, and the potential that this has. I'll try to update once there are changes or aditions. Correction: There is a dodge, it's Ctrl, you can use it with WASD, but the key bindings won't tell you. Update after 8 months: lol abandoned, now switching to negative review. Fun idea but never touched again.
Thoughts
The idea here is that someone decided it would be a good idea to mash a survival, crafting game with the combat, exploration and mechanics of a Dark Souls game and yes, you can clearly see the souls-like ideas if you play the game. The thing is, none of these ideas function very well and seem half-assed, unfinished all while being sold as a full game. I'm unsure if it is still being worked on, the last small update was in May 2024 and seems to be on a permanent sale, so keep that in mind if you are interested. That was right before I walked off, found the bosses and smacked a bubble with a girl in it only to have the credits roll. So I guess I found her.

Gameplay

With the survival crafting side of things it does nothing new. There is nothing here we haven't seen a 100 odd times before. You walk out, pick up a rock and then start smacking shit to get resources until you have enough to craft a tool or item that for some reason has a queue time, only to repeat the process until you can build a base and craft better gear. The main problem is, you literally don't need to do any of it, you have no need too outside of a To-Do-List quest and you can walk over to nearby ruins and easily fistfight an enemy and get a weapon.
From what I can tell, your hydration metre will only fill up by drinking from a well, by swimming in fresh water or when it rains. I very could of easily missed something in the crafting menu but while off exploring it would be a lot better if you some kind of waterskin or canteen.
Combat is bad, to put it simply. And about as in-depth as a blank piece of paper. Every enemy you can deal with by walking up to and just walking to the side while locked on and getting in hits when they are stuck in an attack animation or by having a polearm and weaving in and out, which is also an easy way to deal with the bosses. If you take enemies directly on and try to block attacks they will just go right through it unless you have a shield and while attacking you will most likely be in an animation while they just smack you one. Bows are also an option and are pretty powerful and if an enemy has one you just sprint at them and attack to stun-lock them.
After I wandered off and found the first boss pretty quickly the game just gave me decent weapons, a full set of armour and a Pegasus to fly around the map and from there I managed to find the second boss pretty close by but apparently I went in the back way and avoided the "dungeon".
You have these respawn points which act like bonfires. When you die you drop everything and have to run back to collect it all. Sucks to be you if you died to an enemy because they are most likely sitting on and maybe others because everything respawns when you leave the area and you have to run over, click on your bag and hopefully get the chance to click take all or equip a weapon.
The map is a decent size but quickly becomes meagre when you get the flying mount and makes the portals that teleport you around the map that you can find redundant. I still don';t know if the mount was meant to be found so early after the boss, but it's pretty close to spawn and easy to get to.
Aside from the quests the game gives you no direction. What I mean by that is, it gives a goal like "go kill wraiths at the nearby ruins" Yeah okay, but where is that? An entire map to walk around to find em and hope you come across the right ones. With no marker or compass it's just annoying and is fabricating play time.
Difficulty

It's pretty straight forward and doesn't take much to deal with enemies or beat the game.
Length

The fact that this is a survival type game and I finished it within 2 hours Is pretty telling. If for whatever reason, you could spend 20 odd hours in this game base building and just casually exploring if you really wanted to.

Visuals, Audio, and Performance.
Visuals

The trailers and screenshots definitely make it look a lot prettier than what it actually is but visually the game doesn't look awful but not impressive either.
Lot's of animation jank and stiffnes.
No customisation options for your character. You are stuck as bowlcut man, preset #1.
You'll find a lot of broken assets. Things merging into walls, objects just completely missing and a lot of what just feels like random placement.
The UI looks very poor and outdated. It feels like something out of a cheap MMORPG from the early late 2000's.
The Wraith enemy is identical to that of the one in the game Dark and Darker and people are reporting other assets being stolen, which I can't confirm but I would not be suprised.
Audio

No voice acting.
Music is stock, uninteresting, fantasy, filler playing constantly. Well from what I remember, you drown it out pretty quick.
Audio effects are just there, don't have much to say about hitting an enemy, tree or whatever else. Nor the noises the enemies make.
Performance and Bugs.

Performance wise it ran fine for me. No stuttering, frame issues or anything of the like.
I had two achievements fail to pop, which based on the discussion seems like a common issue. I ended up forcing them. (Which I won't explain how, if you know, you know).
Based on other reviews there is a fair few common bugs but I barely experienced anything that was an issue, aside from overall game jank. Very interesting game, with beautiful graphics as well. I liked the ideas and concepts that were thought of while playing. If the game is expanded (more types of weapons – I like using a shield and didn't find any to create –, explorable area, construction, etc.), the bugs are fixed, and a cooperative mode is adopted (I saw that there is a totem that prevents other players from building in the same area, so I think the idea is to adopt a cooperative mode in the near future), I think the game can be more appealing to those who enjoy the mix of older concepts in a more recent game. There is potential to explore in various areas, as many have already commented. What bothered me the most, actually, is that everything you use (axe for cutting wood, pickaxe for mining, weapons for killing and defending, hammer for building) wears out with use, and you only have two options: either create a repair kit that is expensive, cumbersome, and very limited (2 uses, each of which repairs 50% durability) or create a new tool/new weapon to use, storing the broken one in a chest or throwing it away. If it's for repairing, adopt any other system (Outward, Conan, Enshrouded, Valheim, etc.), but do not adopt this super restrictive repair system, or at most have it exist if you want to repair while traveling/adventuring, but not necessary if you are at your base. I recommend this game on its current state if you can get it on discount (also, the game HAS a map, I don't know why people are saying it doesn't).

This is clearly an abandoned tech demo. But for under $1, sure can have a few hours of fun in it. Laughable to charge $7 for this at full price. This is a shell of a game, not even close to a full game haha

Only 2.7 hours in but have had fun so far. Not found anything ground breaking or game breaking at the mo. Found the horse though which has improved my travel times immensely lol. It's 8 quid and I'm enjoying it. I've found it very relaxing. 9.8hrs update Ok now |I've played a bit moreI'll update. A bug at the mo lets your horse turn into Pegasus flying mount when saved and relogged. No biggy but does allow you to get a super golden sword off the bat. I had to restart my game after 5 hours-ish because I couldn't hand in the quest for the key and wallet for Val. When I restarted I went to her first to get the quest before getting the quest to talk to her from Ironheart and all worked fine after that. Could be a bug or maybe I glitched it myself. Still, so far really enjoying it and I'm just pottering doing the to-do list and any quests that come up. Not really going out to just explore as I'm letting the story line take me wherever needed. Told the developer about the mount bug and they responded quickly. Let's see what happens.

The game is way too unpolished to be called a "full game". In the future I'd suggest fixing the dialogue, giving the players a map, actually making the story interesting, making the UI actually usable etc. Over half of the game time you spend aimlessly wandering around and the other half doing the most boring tasks known to man. I think my grandma could publish a better soulslike rpg. Maybe in the future it'll live up to the expectations but this is just not it.

The game needs to go back and cook longer. I walked off the starting platform and fell halfway through it, had to jump out. The game needs a better tutorial. For example says collect corns (yes corns) by the wood house.... Well you have to FIND the wood house. I submitted for a refund, may purchase the game again if a lot more work gets put into it. Sad too since I had this on my wish list for quite some time.

Game is very early access, but is listed as a full game. This plays more like a school project than a video game

1 Hour Review: Simply boring and unpolished. I know this game is still in EA but that is no excuse for this state of rubbish. The gameplay is boring, i wouldn't call this game 'souls-like', is it frustrating? Yes, but not 'souls-like' frustrating but simply because it's janky, repetitive, and BORING. The first thing that you will notice when you open the game is the god loving mother of all shitty UI. The UI is horrendous and that's the only word i can find trying to be nice. When you enter the world you will notice that the movement is janky, you can't jump-attack, the enemies instantly respawn when you walk away for 20m, and IT HAS NO MAP. Yes, ladies and gentlemen this game has no map. 45 minutes in and i realized you can use spell right from the beginning but the game has no clear guiding on how to use it so my hotbar stucked with 2 spells for water (not to be mistaken with water attack but this game apparently has a spell for water so you can drink out of nowhere). When you walk around you will find respawn beam everywhere but again no clear tutorial on what that is as you don't have map so you can't fast travel. I haven't died in my entire playthrough because the enemies are dumb so they are easy to cheese. Before i ended my playthrough i tried to suicide so that i would know what happens if i die so here's the punchline. When you die, your items will be thrown around where you die just like in minecraft and it will take million years to find your items and also your equipment won't be automatically used upon taking it back. My verdict: Don't waste your time For the developer: Maybe polish your game a little bit instead of advertising heavily just for the game to be underwhelming. We've had Palworld and Enshrouded earlier this year and those are fun from day 1. Consumers are not stupid anymore now, you can't fool us.
