having played will of the wisps first this game feels rough in comparison, from the save mechanics, to monsters doing ridiculous amounts of damage, the near impossible escape sequences etc. but that being said its still a fantastic game, and its clear why will of the wisps ended up so good

What a great fuckin game, on every level. Fun to play, no tutorial needed, great game design, great soundtrack. It made me very emotional. BTW, I think the Definitive Edition version is what you're supposed to play, it has some bug fixes and other changes. I think I was the last person allowed to purchase this original version.

An amazing modern metroidvania. Fun abilities, a beautiful world, all capped off with some amazing action setpieces at climactic story moments.

Good balance among difficult Jump-Jump-Fun (platform jumping), interesting interaction with various elements, and excellent art (graphic and music).

Game is beautifully done, but you're going to have to be okay with dying a bajillion times before you're successful in completing some challenges, which can be frustrating. Don't say you weren't warned

Ori and the Blind Forest, developed by Moon Studios, is a game that doesn’t just aim to entertain—it aims to move you. Equal parts platformer, exploration adventure, and emotional journey, this indie gem combines tight gameplay with jaw-dropping artistry to create something truly special. At its core, Ori and the Blind Forest is a story about loss, growth, and the delicate balance of nature. You play as Ori, a small guardian spirit separated from the Spirit Tree and thrust into a dying forest filled with danger and mystery. Without spoiling much, the opening 10 minutes hit with Pixar-level emotional weight, and the game never lets go of its strong narrative thread. The story is told with minimal dialogue, relying instead on sweeping visuals, haunting music, and expressive animation to convey emotion. It’s a masterclass in environmental storytelling. Ori is a “Metroidvania” at heart, emphasizing exploration, backtracking, and unlocking new abilities to access previously unreachable areas. But where it truly shines is in its controls. Ori is responsive, agile, and a joy to maneuver—whether you're wall-jumping through spiked caverns or performing intricate escape sequences. Combat is light but satisfying, and the game introduces mechanics at just the right pace to keep things fresh. The save-anywhere "Soul Link" system adds a strategic layer to the challenge, allowing players to control their own checkpoints in a game that can be punishing but never unfair. Simply put: Ori and the Blind Forest is one of the most beautiful games ever made. Hand-painted environments, fluid animations, and a dreamlike aesthetic make every frame worthy of a screenshot. The forest world feels alive, glowing with bioluminescent magic and shadowy depth. Complementing the visuals is Gareth Coker’s sweeping orchestral score. The music elevates every moment—whether it’s a quiet lull or a frantic escape—with emotional resonance and grandeur. Ori and the Blind Forest isn’t just a game—it’s an experience. It blends challenging platforming with a touching story and a breathtaking world. Every element feels handcrafted with love and purpose, creating a journey that lingers long after the credits roll. Pros: -Gorgeous, painterly visuals -Smooth, responsive platforming mechanics -Emotional, non-verbal storytelling -Masterful soundtrack -Memorable set pieces and pacing Cons: -Some difficulty spikes may frustrate casual players -Limited combat depth compared to other Metroidvanias A soulful symphony of light and loss, Ori and the Blind Forest stands as one of the finest platformers of its generation. It’s a game that’s as moving as it is mesmerizing, and a must-play for fans of meaningful, beautifully crafted experiences. Rating: 9/10
A beaituful and emotional journey
Rating ★★★★☆ The art style and ambience of this game are truly top-tier. The music is haunting and really pulls you into the game world. Even the menu is visually stunning. The movement and traversal felt good, although the jumping seemed a little off to me at first but I eventually became used to it. The abilities are well thought out, with an easy to understand UI and progression system. The same can be said for the level design, with obstacles and challenges easy enough to overcome with a touch of logic and imagination. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3499345831 Despite all my praise for this game, I still have to admit I felt a little drained by the end. Not from the heartbreaking story, but from my countless deaths. ⠀
