1001 Spikes is a very challenging platformer that will push you to your limit, but still feels fair most of the time. It has a clean graphics and a very nice retro soundtrack, and the gameplay scales appropriately as you progress. I wouldn't necessarily spend $15 on it, but if there's a sale, I would highly recommend (if you like platformers). I appreciate the fact that, despite the apparent retro style of the game, modern QoL features like key rebinding are still available. Here comes my big complaint:
the 2nd boss is creative and should be really fun... but it relies so heavily on randomness. There's literally no way to avoid death sometimes, making it feel more like I'm spinning a wheel than actually learning the moves.
Final Verdict: 8/10 [Good]

Yen, playable, Yellow. Needs 21:9 for SteamOS so my Steam Deck OLED can see it all and SHAPR filter. Finished before on Xbox 360 and I like the new content.

I can definitely appreciate a game without hand-holding. Games where you learn as you play are much more interesting to me than walls of tutorials. Dying is rewarded, at least at first. The graphics and music are very good, too. And there are cool unlockables. However...it is difficult for me to recommend this game after realizing its formula. Once you reach the more difficult levels (basically world 4 and up), you will decide very quickly whether or not you want to keep playing. The formula is: learn, die, repeat until you win. Except there is precision (!!!) platforming involved. *Very* precise platforming is required in order to beat the levels in this game. If that is your thing...go for it. Otherwise, this game will beat you into the ground over and over again. You will learn...but actually pulling it off can be extremely difficult. To me, it feels like a waste of time.
