Playtime:
28 minutes
After 2 hours of playing time (offline) here is my review: There are many good RPGMaker games, some are even really great. Well, Crimson Pearl is not one of them. Rather, it plays as if someone took parts from other games and mixed them in a blender.
The story...of course we have to save the world. But after the first dungeon there is a disagreement in the group. 1 of the witches is changed by an artifact, kills another group member and hey presto, now it is up to us and a new group to stop this witch. To do this we have to find 3 artifacts that are scattered around the world and bring them together.
There is no map...means walking around (on foot or by ship) until you reach the next dungeon.
The dungeons are boring. They drag on endlessly like a tube, every now and then there is a fork...one path leads to the goal, the other usually to a chest whose contents are hardly worth the effort.
The fights are always the same. Each dungeon is populated by only 2 types of monster. The rewards are very few experience and even less gold. This presents us with a problem, there is hardly enough to equip the group...there is actually nothing left for healing potions. This means that we either use the few potions we find or we have to march back to the next inn after a few fights to heal ourselves.
Oh yes, all enemies are visible and once defeated they disappear forever...so no possibility of grinding.
There is also no possibility of fast travel. If we have reached a destination and have to go back, that means we have to go all the way back (this time without the enemies we have defeated).
Otherwise, the world is very dull. Apart from a few NPCs who say a sentence, the others remain silent. There is no fauna at all. And the towns are so empty that only the laziness of the programmers can be to blame.
From the promises about the game:
Storyline full of twists...well, not really.
Semi-open world: sure, you can sail wherever you want...but ultimately you have to get to the next dungeon.
Vast world: NO!!!
Quest log: OMG, if that's a feature...there's also next to nothing in the log...at least no hint as to how best to reach your next goal.
Mouse support: OK, if you need that...otherwise it's better to play with a gamepad.
Up to 20 hours: Sure, since you'll be wasting hours running for no reason.
Even if it's discounted, I can't recommend this game to anyone.
