Good game...I really liked it...intentionally not stellar graphics or dynamic combat. It really felt like being in one of those 80s, slasher horror movies. Very dark and shadowy environments create excellent atmosphere and tension. I thought the combat was fun, and learning to use different weapons and knowing the right time to strike...some were slow with heavy damage, and some were fast but inflicted light damage. Definitely could have used more enemy variety, but overall, pretty fun. Wish there was a level editor where players could design their own levels.

Pretty great and fun experience with an aesthetic and atmosphere clearly inspired by games such as Manhunt and Condemned, satisfying combat, great pacing and interesting story for what bits and pieces you get of it. Kind of short but good to play every now and then

The premise behind Butcher's Creek is probably stronger than its execution, but I still recommend giving it a try, probably by buying it while on sale. The atmosphere is generally well-executed, but it suffers from having rooms/set pieces that are just too "video game" most of the time. The writing is just enough to keep you strung along but I wouldn't necessarily say the few characters there are in this game really amount to much. Gameplay is enjoyable but very repetitive. Weapons are essentially all on a scale of fast-to-slow and high-to-low damage. The combat also doesn't necessarily work as intended, enemies will not stagger when they're supposed to sometimes, I kicked more than a few through walls without ever intending too, enemies will sometimes hit you through walls, and a few other issues come up of a similar variety. I should also add this game gives me the impression of having no replay value. Still, the premise, small connections to other Szymanski games, and mostly fun combat moments are enough for me to recommend this game. If you want a quick horror game for the Halloween season, this one is a decent contender.

Its a fun time, just much too easy, even on hard mode because of how exploitable the AI is

Its exactly what I wanted out of a David Szymanski game. Edgy violence with well thought out lore that connects to his other games. It might be simple, but the game feels right, even with the slight jank. WELL worth the cost of entry. Especially If you like liked Squirrel Stapler and Pony Factory.

Szymanski, You've done it again. short and sweet but oh so savored. with a soundtrack like a well oiled meat grinder, this game was intense, and flipped the script a few times. loved it, please oh please keep doing what you do.

A gruesome and sometimes goofy (complimentary) "Condemned"-em-up with a heaping dash of cosmic horror spread across the story told through notes littering the makeshift abattoirs you wander through, sowing teeth and collecting snuff. The major highlights are definitely the atmosphere (both in terms of environmental design and the general sense of dread pervading the proceedings). The music, sound design, and voice acting are top notch, and being called a penis after giving a guy a concussion is always fun. The gameplay is solid, although the
Predator-style camouflaged enemies towards the end
were a little cheap and not in keeping with the general strike/block/strike gameplay loop the game was built around, and the AI can be a bit rudimentary at times, getting stuck on the environment and briefly braking the ultraviolent spell the game casts. All in all, I had a blast and it's totally worth the price of admission.

Bite-size & Bloody. It's a little goofy but it's fun, my only complaint is that the combat. It's serviceable but lacklustre for a game focusing on ultra violence.

A short but solid Indie melee only horror game with good and bad stuff. I recommend buying it on sale due to its very short length and lack of replay value (more on that later). What I liked: - The first enemy encounter caught me off guard. It came out of nowhere and gave me a little jumpscare. - The atmosphere is excellent. The creepy sounds really help build tension and fear, at least during the first playthrough. - I liked the fact that touching glass on the floor hurts you. It forces you to be aware of your surroundings. - Enemy reactions to being hit are incredibly satisfying. - While the combat is simple, I really enjoyed it. Everything you use has a clear purpose: 1) Kicking and attacking at the same time can stunlock enemies (though it's risky when there are in groups). 2) The camera can heal you and also briefly stuns enemies, giving you an opening. 3) Kicks can also knock enemies off ledges or "interact" with environmental hazards. 4) A parry refills your stamina instantly. Once mastered you are constantly in combat without running away from enemies to wait for the stamina to refill. 5) You can throw your weapon to buy time and grab another one since weapons break. I really liked this system, it encourages you to cycle through different melee options. What I didn’t like: - The on screen text in the beginning (representing the main character’s thoughts) was covering too much of the screen. I would’ve preferred voice lines instead. - The game gives you way too many tapes (that you can use to save the game, similiar to classic resident evil). - Only three enemy types (four if you count the invisible one), all with the same basic attack but different speed or/and damage. Somehow Resident Evil 7 is better on this. Enemy AI is very bad. Sometimes they just stare at you or walk away during the fight. - No replay value, no achievements, no extra modes. You could play hard mode after finishing the game on normal, but that’s it. Unless you’re into speedrunning, there’s not much reason to come back. Not sure if it was a bug, but custom keybindings didn’t save after transitioning to a new area.
