As someone who considers the MegaMan franchise to be one of the of all time, Shovel Knight is right up my alley and gave me the perfect platformer. The story, music, characters, fights, all of it. Just perfect and just what I needed while I wait for a new megaman game(coming in probably never). 10/10

Shovel of Hope is timeless, but the other campaigns can be even better. There's 4 crazy-good, challenging-but-fair platformers with charming pixel art, witty dialogue and fantastic soundtrack. Each with its own story, completely different game mechanics and even a very addicting, full-fledged trading card game.
The plots are surprisingly good too, hard to tell which one is the best, but it's really cool how they all converge at some point. Legendary collection.

Shovel Knight is definitely one of my all time favorite games. I love classic platformers and older games in general and this really nails it.
The original campaign is great as a start going through it the first time I played it 4 years ago was really awesome I had gotten the game for my birthday and I played through the campaign in like a day just struggling but managing. Now when I got it on steam I knew what I was doing and had a lot easier of a time. I had started grinding for achievements a couple years back and finally got back into it. I definitely struggled the most with the speed run achievement because it was the last campaign I got all achievements for.
Plague Knights campaign is so good but so bad at the same time. It’s fun and frustrating. I’ve gotten used to the movement by now but I don’t think it was very good but the story is so good it might be my favorite one story wise.
Specter knight is definitely my favorite campaign the movement is so much fun the fights are great and the story is really good too.
King knight is also a mixed bag because I really like the movement and story, but as cool of a concept joustus is it is so frustrating to get through.
Showdown really sucks I can see the vision but it was done poorly.
All in all 9/10, thank you yacht club!

Let me say this.
If you just want to play the main campaigns, and maybe a bit of the extra content,
I would recommend.
The Shovel Knight, Plague Knight, Spectre Knight and King Knight campaigns are all very well made and engaging, plus Showdown is... alright.
However, if you are a completionist, who wants to get 100% achievements on every game they play...
SAVE YOURSELF. This game's achievements are hellish and will steal your time. I've played for 225 hours and I still have 18 achievements left.
Casual gamers? Buy.
Completionists? NONONONONO

a great retro throwback game. loved the shovel of hope and spectre of torment campaigns, but plague of shadows and king of cards couldn't maintain my interest. plays a bit like a cross between the NES megaman and castlevania games, but has modern checkpoints and no life system thankfully, so its meaner moments aren't too frustrating (it has to be at least a bit mean to be an NES throwback though). it's incredibly charming and has a great bleep bloopy bop of an 8-bit soundtrack. highly recommended!

I played the main story when it came out 10 years ago (time flies!), but I was always interested in the dlc campaigns. Now I've completed them all and there's an interesting game design meta arc going on here: each dlc explores how you can riff on the concept of the first game... and each campaign gets a bit wilder.
Plague of Shadows is the safest of the 3: you're basically playing through SoH again, but with Plague Knight who has a radically different playstyle compared to Shovel Knight. It took me a while to get used to his weird movement, but it makes the old levels feel new again. There's a cute little love story going on here too.
Specter of Torment however is probably my favorite campaign of the bunch. The playstyle is revamped again, with Specter Knight who has a very Ninja Gaiden-esque moveset, zipping and slicing through the levels. The level design is now remixed too and has you playing through similar levels from the main campaign, but completely revamped. The cherry on the cake is the story, which is surprisingly touching and tragic.
Then there's King of Cards, which is the most experimental and wildest campaign of the bunch. The world map (which was missing in Specter) returns, but now there's a LOT more levels yet they're all shorter. Each one introduces a new gimmick or concept and makes the stages feel fresh... almost like 'Shovel Knight: ROM hack edition'. Oh and King Knight plays differently from the others obviously, with a moveset that focuses on a Wario-like dash and a twirl to bounce on enemies and obstacles. This felt like the most difficult of the 4 campaigns to me, but getting the rat armor and the bubble makes avoiding deaths a lot easier.
As if that's not enough, there's also a whole-ass card game included here (Joustus), with new cards you can win from opponents and find in levels sometimes. Now I love me some card games but this one never really clicked for me and I didn't get into it. Luckily you don't have to bother with Joustus if you don't want to.
Overall I'm glad I finally played through all these games and I'd heartily recommend them to anyone into action platformers. It's crazy that Yacht Club released all the dlc campaigns for free when they came out, they could've easily charged for each of them. So much value and fun in this Treasure Trove!

It's a good game but I had to stop playing because the flash effects hurt the ol epilepsy.

Pirated the game on my 3ds 8 years ago when I was a kid and then I bought the game on steam years later. Amazing game filled with just so much content. You basically get 4 different games in one. King knight and shovel knight's gotta be my favorites to play.
