I have to say I am really impressed. I am super late to the party, I know this. Nevertheless....this game, as it stands as is...is pretty awesome. I am of the opinion that games like THIS with some additional complexity absolutely blow all the shallow, pretty garbage out of the water. If they had spent more time with the complexity of the crafting system and allowed for other RNG factors on ingredients (quality and proc) this game would have grabbed me and not let go like days of yore. As it stands this game has really woken me up to the style and possibilities. The graphics wouldn't need improving one bit. Just the depth and complexity of the game itself...which...I may be talking out my butt as I have a lot more game to play. We'll see. Anyone know if these devs are Russian or Ukrainian? No matter the case, I give this old gem a 8/10....I'll take the lightening strikes again and again

Let me start by saying that I played the whole game in the "Kovac" Difficulty which may give me a bias towards this game. How to survive is a game that really fits the title, you will be constantly in high alert seeing what will be the next thing that will try to kill you, whether it will be the unending number of zombies, the aggressive local fauna or the lack of resources, every time that you move from one shelter to another you are just wandering "now what?" The best part in this game is hands down the crafting system. Fun, intuitive and really uncomplicated 99% of the recipes (Diabloooooo) That being said, some of the crafting recpies (e.g. potions) are both locked behind a very lacking skill tree and are not worth at all, my advice? Focus on weapons, that's the most fun you'll have with the crafting system, and it will also be a very necsesary part of the game if you *really* want to survive. The game evolves with your progress, so although you will never feel like things get too easy, you can tell in later parts of the game that the "difficulty" does not come in a form of a curve, but rather a 10 ton crate full of spam that will eat trough your resources like an american in a buffet. The worst part of the game (and thankfully fully optional) is the Diablo DLC. I would spend half the review talking about it, but I will spend it rather on the actual DLC review page. Overall, this is a great fun title to play solo or with friends, the crafting is fun, killing zombies is always great and the weapons don't feel bland nor boring. 8/10

Played the demo on xbox360 in like 2014? Great game, if you like this then you'll like project zomboid (which is what reminded me of "how to survive") wish I would have played when it came out.

It's simple, violent, and full of zombies. What's not to like? Actually, it's a little more than that. Especially the way that you can use different bit of equipment to make weapons, and different parts of the environment. No special "weapons with buffs", it's like - here's an example: you get basic arrows. If you use them to shoot down some birds, you can then use the feathers to make better arrows. Similarly, you can make better classes of axes as you go, make health kits, etc. And Kovac's rules. In its very "off" sort of way, it's pretty funny.

🎯 Rating: 7/10 📜 Overview How to Survive is an action-adventure survival game developed by Eko Software and released in 2013. Set on a mysterious island during a zombie apocalypse, players are tasked with surviving by scavenging for resources, crafting weapons, and defending themselves from hordes of zombies. The game features a mix of open-world exploration, action, and survival mechanics, with an emphasis on managing hunger, thirst, and health. Players can explore the environment, take on quests, and gather materials to craft useful items like weapons and tools to increase their chances of survival. 🌟 Pros ✅ Engaging Survival Mechanics: The game does a good job of making survival feel challenging by requiring players to manage basic needs like hunger, thirst, and health. ✅ Crafting System: A deep crafting system allows players to combine items and resources to create new weapons, tools, and survival equipment, adding layers to gameplay. ✅ Zombie Combat: Engaging combat mechanics allow players to fight off zombies using a variety of weapons and tools, from guns to makeshift melee weapons. ✅ Multiplayer Mode: The game includes co-op multiplayer, allowing friends to join forces to survive together and tackle challenges as a team. ✅ Atmosphere and Story: The setting and atmosphere of the zombie apocalypse are immersive, with detailed environments and a story that gradually unfolds as you progress. ⚠️ Cons ❌ Repetitive Gameplay: The game’s core loop of scavenging, crafting, and fighting zombies can become repetitive over time, especially for players looking for more varied gameplay. ❌ Clunky Controls: Some players find the controls to be unintuitive, especially when it comes to combat and navigation, leading to frustrations during more intense moments. ❌ Limited AI: The enemy AI can be basic and predictable, which reduces the challenge in some areas of the game. The zombies don't always present a significant threat once players get the hang of combat. ❌ Outdated Graphics: While functional, the visuals are relatively dated, and the game’s overall design feels somewhat behind modern survival games. ❌ Story Issues: While the story is intriguing, it can feel disjointed and underdeveloped in certain parts, with the narrative taking a backseat to the survival mechanics. 💬 Player Sentiment Positive Reviews: Players generally enjoy the crafting system, the sense of survival challenge, and the co-op multiplayer feature. The game is appreciated for offering a decent survival experience without being overly complex. Negative Reviews: Common criticisms include the repetitive gameplay loop, clunky controls, and lackluster enemy AI. Some also point out that the graphics and story don’t hold up as well against other survival games in the genre. 🎯 Target Audience 🔹 Fans of survival games looking for a straightforward, zombie-themed experience. 🔹 Players who enjoy crafting, scavenging, and exploration mechanics. 🔹 Those looking for a co-op multiplayer experience to survive with friends. 🔹 Zombie apocalypse enthusiasts who are seeking a basic survival challenge rather than a more in-depth experience. 🏆 Rating Breakdown 🎮 Gameplay: 7.5/10 🎨 Visuals: 6.5/10 ⚖️ Balance: 7/10 🔄 Replayability: 7/10 👥 Community: 7/10 ⭐ Overall Experience: 7/10 🎨 Visual Summary 🎮 Gameplay: Focused on survival mechanics, crafting, and zombie combat, with a straightforward but repetitive loop. 🎨 Visuals: Functional but outdated, lacking the polish of modern survival games. ⚖️ Balance: The gameplay balance is decent but suffers from repetitive moments and weak enemy AI. 🔄 Replayability: Replayable for fans of the genre, though the lack of diversity in gameplay can make it feel repetitive over time. 👥 Community: A modest player base, with multiplayer being a fun aspect of the game. 🎯 Final Verdict How to Survive offers a solid, if somewhat dated, survival experience with a focus on crafting, combat, and managing your basic needs. The game is fun in short bursts, especially in co-op, but its repetitive gameplay and outdated graphics may limit its long-term appeal. While not as polished or complex as other survival games, it offers a straightforward zombie survival experience for players who want something simple and accessible. If you're looking for a lighthearted survival challenge, How to Survive is worth a try, but it might not satisfy players seeking deeper gameplay or narrative.
