KOVAC'S RULES! 1. Good survival zombie apocalypse, just like Zomboid, 2. Good game story, 3. I cant play local co-op, it always crash everytime.

How to Survive is not a bad game, but I can't recommend it. If I had played it at launch I would likely feel more charitable towards it, but games like this have come a long way. Small scale zombie skirmishes are enjoyable, and the Kovak character adds a lot of charm to the game. Unfortunately there are a number of design issues that really drag it down once you hit the mid game. The game's UI is, frankly, awful. You don't have any good organizational tools, and you often have no idea if a random item will come in handy later or not. That mixed with a rather limited carrying capacity leads to a lot of fiddly annoyance. Additionally, zombie hordes get large enough by the mid-game that I just felt completely unequipped to deal with them. Fighting became a slog. There is good stuff here, but for me it wasn't worth the headache.

This game is by no means perfect, neither good in a sense, not so great or smooth game mechanics and progression curve, really basic and not so great story, and the swamp island is just.... No.
Despite all of that, I got the game again because I played it really young, and decided to finish the game now that a couple of years have passed.
This is still a lot better than whatever trash that is How to Survive 2, it's sad to see this series go to waste after that, I will miss Kovac and his goofy survival messages.
For anyone interested, get the game and all the DLCs (Without the skin ones) when it's at a discount since it would be very cheap and try it for yourself, don't expect it to be good by any means but just vibe with it.
