Had to farm the minutes to get this out there: Under no circumstances should you purchase this game. I downloaded the wrapper dll files and an ini file from the community, and all the difference that made was: instead of crashing immediately, I was able to see what the menu looks like before it crashed. I got an extra ten seconds of gameplay out of those dlls. There is absolutely no excuse as to why a game shouldn't boot if it's being sold on a platform like steam. If it's free, then maybe I'd get it. This is not free. I almost wouldn't say it's worth it even if it was free. The only way it's worth it if it's free is learning how executable files and dynamic libraries work together. If that's not your jam, skip this if it's free. If it is your jam, wait until this game is free - there's no guarantee that there's a fix for this game that works. Even if it does, the onus should be on the developer, not the community. Edit: found a way to get it working, but you have to keep using the executable until it doesn't crash on startup. Ridiculous that you have to find workarounds to make a game work.

Works absolutely fine if you download conceptual edition mod and re-vamped combined. THESE STEPS ARE 100% NECESSARY FOR THE GAME TO FUNCTION AT ALL. This game is one of my all time favourites and I can't wait to put more hours into this classic. My only complaint is how much of a ball ache it was to set up controller support as boss battles are horrendous if you primarily use keyboard and mouse. I highly recommend giving this classic game a try if you haven't before. I hold the legacy of kain series in high regard and would recommend the series to anyone. This however is my favourite by far.
