I've had fun playing this game so far and look forward to future updates. I'm a huge fan of this emerging Roguelike genre and its nice to see in a shooter. Critics would primarily be with the physics of the shooting in this game, combat lacks fluidity but is still fun. It would also be nice to see more variety in the map design and color. I would certainly say it was worth it considering minimal cost, if you are bored and looking for some mindless fun give this game a try :).

Picked this up in early access cause it looked fun and was only 1.99. it's definitely early access - needs some more textures and the enemy AI isn't great yet but it gives me some serious Quake vibes from the movement and weapons. Finished the whole thing first time in about 15m. I'll DEFINITELY be looking forward to updates but probably wont' play again til next update. Oh - and it works on linux!

This is a shooter with a cyberpunk aesthetic and I had a good time with it for the near 30 minutes spent (at the time). The rooms are random so ya never know what you're gonna get. Solid effort for a decent price. Gameplay here: https://youtu.be/IWSG1F03_yQ (soon)

2 hours played. Not bad. Combat is fun, nice music. However the control is too stiff and you get stuck to the geometry due to the horrible character colliding detection. There are 4 difficulty levels and it's really annoying when you try to beat the hardest difficulty, keep causing fatal damage stuck in the wall and geometry. This game is fun but not recommend right now. If they fix it, I'll sure I'll change this review.

Good game, especially for 2 dollars and for what it is. I think the biggest thing at least for me is that the difficulty doesn't feel high enough for a rougelite. I think for example the rocket launcher is really strong. However, there's really no punishment to using it. Maybe you can self inflict damage if you shoot too close?

I found the game to be pretty fun. Granted, I have only played one run so far, but I did successfully get to the end of what is in the game currently. One thing that stood out to me as soon as I started it is that it felt like another game called BPM. It's got the same minimap/floor layout system, shops and other things you can interact with are random through the levels, and the dash feels similar. However, this isn't a music based game, so it's different there. Something else that I discovered as I played was that there's a system like the elite enemies in Vampire Survivors. It gives a random upgrade and money (Which I don't know what that's for). The music is nice, but it does get very repetitive after a while. I have a couple of issues with it (Bearing in mind that it is still pre alpha release) is that I really felt no desire, nor need, to swap off the starting pistols. I got multiple other weapons, and while I did try them out, I kept going back to the pistols as they were plenty strong, oneshotting enemies up until the end. I believe I got them up to lvl 9? Also, why did they start off with an elemental effect? Is that supposed to be there? It made the enemies that weren't killed in one shot take damage over time and either killed them with that or the next shot did the trick. There's also levels where there are open spots in the floor so you can fall through. That's a purposeful thing, I know, but it's really annoying when you first spawn into a room and immediately fall off because you try to go to the side rather than forwards. Overall, I'd say it's worth the price right now. It's enjoyable for a couple of runs, then hop over to something else. Will I come back to it? Yea, in a while, but probably not for a couple days.

Summary: Overdrive Escape is a pre-alpha Early Access version of what will ultimately be a multi-stage roguelike FPS. The game feels somewhat like a hybrid of a boomercore shooter and a FEAR style sci-fi tactical FPS. At the current point the gameplay is very solid and clearly there but the game is incomplete with a small number of stages and graphical variation outside of weapons and background assets clearly to come in time. Cons: - Small number of stages - AI can seem cheap and feel aimbotty at times (e.g. strafing sideways without reacting to your bullets while minigunning you with 100% accuracy) - Bipedal enemies being limited to different colours of the same soldier bar melee soldiers makes it hard to tell who needs dealing with first Neutral: - Guns start off quite inaccurate - Health drops feel rare, making most health damage feel permanent - Drops being RNG mean some runs become a lost cause - Music gets a bit repetitive after a while, seeming to be based round short loops of beats. That said it sounds really good and does a great job. Pros: - Excellent, heavily responsive controls - Clear intent and action to reward the player constantly for sticking at it - Engaged, thoughtful, considerate and hardworking developer - Regular updates - Impressive suite of guns, character types and upgrades - Cash stays after you die - Clear intention to keep building the game - No 'full game price, pre-alpha content' racket with an extremely reasonable asking price for Early Access that places this game as cheaper than most skins for AAA games-as-service titles. Conclusion: Unless you want to moan about the short amount of content in an average run (runs on the first available difficulty take about 15 minutes tops if successful), this is a really great way to spend a couple of quid. The developer is on point about listening to player input and has already developed an extremely solid play experience that they intend to keep building and building upon, with the next update already planned. Right now the AI can seem a bit indifferent to being shot in the face and far too accurate, and there seem to only be two or three different models for AI humanoids making them hard to differentiate without getting right in their faces, but that and an expansion of the number of stages, maybe some variation on the Tron-lite environments to distinguish each stage too is all I would add. This is already a very entertaining coffee-break-speed roguelike shooter. I look forward to more being added to what is a commendably and conscientiously developed game with an extremely fair price in comparison to other Early Access games. This already gets so much right, and I can't wait to see what is added over time.

game is nice but i can feel that the game is still on alpha tests crashes often and has little content, shooting is fun and i like this graphic design excluging interface (i mean shop for example looks like potato) so i can recommend this game fo everyone who likes arena shooters but not at this phase of game, at the end i'd love to see the game develop further because it has a potential

The game revolves around shooting, with minimal mechanics to consider. The neon theme commonly associated with fast-paced games is present here, aiming to create an adrenaline-fueled atmosphere. Your main objective is to clear out randomly generated rooms filled with enemies, as there is no specific storyline or overarching objective. However, at the end of each level, you have the opportunity to choose a perk, which serves as the game's only progression element.

🔷 The combat in this game falls somewhere between being mediocre and excellent. While the fluidity of the combat may not be top-notch, the fast-paced movement of the game manages to make it enjoyable. A wide variety of weapons are available in the game, which can be obtained as perks at the end of each level. However, the accuracy of the shots can be a bit frustrating, as there were instances where I missed despite having my crosshair directly on the enemy. Despite this minor drawback, the overall experience is mostly positive and enjoyable.

🔶 The only area where the game falls short is in its progression system. While there are currencies available for purchasing perks, it is not sufficient to provide a satisfying sense of progression. The initial few hours of gameplay may be enjoyable, but beyond that, the game fails to deliver further excitement or meaningful advancements.

📷Visuals and Audio:

🔷 The developers have attempted to create a neon-themed atmosphere in the game, but it falls short of expectations. The walls and other textures appear as plain colored blocks, lacking the desired neon aesthetic. There’s just not enough neon in this neon game! The weapons and their animations were the primary elements that contributed to the theme of the game. It is during combat that vibrant colors become more apparent, although there is room for improvement in the overall environment. However, one positive aspect worth noting is the consistent glitching effect throughout the game, which adds a cool touch.

🔶 The soundtrack of this game complements the neon theme and fast-paced gameplay perfectly. It sets the right tone and enhances the overall experience. However, a drawback is that there is only a single soundtrack in the game, which can become repetitive and annoying after a certain point. It would be greatly appreciated if the developers added at least one more soundtrack to provide variety and prevent monotony during extended gameplay sessions.

📝Main Pros and Cons:
Pros-

Fast-paced gameplay.
Neon theme.
Combat is decent.
The guns and animations look great
Cons-

The environment looks very basic.
Progression is very weak.
Gets boring very fast.

😇Honest Rating:

🔷 Overdrive Escape is not intended to be a game that you grind for extended periods. The gameplay experience typically lasts between 1 to 3 hours, which aligns well with the game's affordable price point. If you enjoy fast-paced combat, I would recommend giving this game a try. It offers an action-packed experience that caters to those seeking a short game with minimal mechanics.

Rating: 6.5/10 I don’t understand what those three tied up humans or whatever are at the beginning.
