The gameplay in World Brothers 2 is a direct improvement to WB1, a difference of "this is pretty good but I wish it was harder" to "this is about as difficult as it should be AND really good AND I got more stuff!" Lots of new powers, and more enemies. Some of the new characters are especially fun to play. You even get some of the content that was DLC in WB1 for free in this one.
While I don't really like World Brothers 2's writing as much as WB1's, that's a difference of "the best writing in a goober series" to "the second best writing in a goober series," both despite having themes and styles tailored more for younger audiences. WB1 has subtler character moments, and the characters have far better interactions over there on both comedic and serious instances. WB2, meanwhile, has its moments and it's generally better than the pretty arbitrary writing of mainline EDF, but yeah.

Great fun! The best EDF series outside of the main games. You don't need to play World Brothers 1, this game has more abilities and is better overall than WB1. But if you are a big EDF fan and figure you will play through both then get WB1 first. No need to play any other EDF games either, it stands on its own. More about character abilities than weapons.
