Oh it's good fun until it tells you the car can fly. Then it wants you to FLY THE CAR ALL OF THE TIME AFTER THAT. If you like flying games, go for it - If you wanted a driving game, nope it out, you aint getting a driving game here.

The best racing game for those who don't like regular racing! The tracks are extremely challenging, dynamic, and incredible. You need to drive around the track, jump your car off walls, upside down, fly your car, dodge traps, find your way to the finish, face challenges, and much more. The highlight is undoubtedly the workshop, which keeps the game alive to this day. Numerous tracks are created with the game's powerful in-game level creation system, tracks inspired by countless works like the perfection of Acceleracers. It's just a shame that the devs don't provide much in the way of updates or content, even though they know how interested people are in their game, even YEARS after its release. They could add more cars, new modes, or just create events.

Bought this in mid 2025. This is a perfect game. Its not the better warzone I want, or the DCS World that doesnt crash I need. But this is a perfect game through in through. It does gameplay extremely well and it is very satisfying to play. Music and ascetics really sync up to the gameplay. Its simple, and executes on what it sets out to do. With games becoming 150GB monsters that aren't fun, more games should strive to be like this.

This game, on sale for it's $2.50 is such a deal. The game itself is pretty neat, with a stark contrast between speed and lighting. The way the environment directs you through the roads themselves is really nice. It does get hit and miss at times in the later stages with tracks not lighting up, controls being a little too touchy at times or the absurd moments of extreme difficulty spikes, I spent about 30 minutes on 2 stages aka 1/5th of my playtime on 2 stages. there are somewhere 30 stages total spread between 3 chapters. Another good portion was me testing out the VR aspect of the game. Gee golly, don't be like me, don't subject yourself to that hell. It's super cool and immersive, but you're forced into first person perspective in the cockpit of the car. There is a reason games with XYZ movements are typically in 3rd person. It was rough to put it lightly. Slow, trepidatious and overall miserable in a game all about speed. They give you an option to add your own music to the game, which I took advantage of fully. You should consider some f-zero type music, but with the art direction of the game I indulged in some dark synthwave which was an amazing decision, it paired perfectly. Aside from the campaign, there is arcade and multiplayer and an entire workshop full of tracks. This is such a great deal on sale, if you like fast paced driving games, I highly recommend you pick this one up while it's on sale. I only did the campaign but that was a solid 8/10 for me

Rocket league hardware with F - ZERO software. Do buy if you love futuristic aesthetics, high speeds and a banger soundtrack. I'd recommend it BUT it isn't perfect as the more complex manouvres aren't properly explained and have little to no room for error which IS frustrating. Don't buy this if you get tilted easily.

If you like rocket league and wished it was a proper racing game then look no further. Got this as an early access due to my love of racing games and it just looking amazing. Complex racing with brutal lasers and saws. Once you get a feel for it, you wish the game never ends. Sadly i have to replay it to get the achievements but "oh no poor me" ;D

Mixed opinion about this. I do like music and surroundings but that's it gameplay feels like that mobile game about rolling ball with Alan Walker music in background (those who know) whole game do have a lot of content but main campaign feels bland. Would recommend for 2$ if you want a game with a lot of content and this kind of gameplay but if you want to play just main campaign as me it's not worth your time

I really want to like this game. It has a great soundtrack, wonderful set design and art direction, and fluid controls let down by jarring level progression, pacing, and a game world that feels even deader than the story is meant to convey. LIKES: -I am in love with the overall aesthetic of Distance. The futuristic infrastructure, the sleek, elegant vehicle that traverses the game world, the percussive, electronic music... it all comes together quite well. -The execution of the art style is ahead of its time. It holds up very well for 2018. -The controls are well-explained (for the most part) and intuitive (again, for the most part.) The portions of that sentence in parentheses will be explored below. DISLIKES: -More time and attention went into tutorials for basic controls than the in-game explanation of the most difficult maneuvers. This leads to a roadblock in a more metaphorical sense partway through the campaign, in which a theoretically simple jump for the developers is one I had to look up after five minutes. -As a result of my first dislike, there is a jarring shift in difficulty. I was waiting for something, anything to happen in the first few levels and all of a sudden I'm presented with mechanics that have little to no room for error, leading to ad nauseam repeats of the same 5-second stretch of road. -The game world and the story that's meant to take place as you drive through it don't match up at all. There are clearly areas where signs of life and development are meant to be seen, and sections that are meant to be rundown and abandoned, but all are abandoned in reality. There are occasional monorail-like vehicles in the level background, zooming about, but nothing that suggests the complex organizational societal structure that the Distance Program is meant to have. It leaves the game feeling very liminal... perhaps to the benefit of the narrative, but it's overkill. -The overall story is a bit paint-by-numbers. I suppose racers, platformers, and games that combine the two are not exactly known for their storytelling, but it doesn't feel particularly unique or thought-out. Just the standard fable of hubris and development for development's sake that gets explored more and more in fictional media, with seemingly fewer and fewer people taking any lessons from it. I cannot go the Distance. This game isn't for me, but maybe it is for someone else. Someone who has a more competitive, perfectionist approach to gaming, like a speedrunner, might enjoy this a lot actually. In that essence I could recommend it... but I don't want to sit here for days on end just figuring out the mechanics of a racer-platformer fusion with a bare-bones story and a game world with nothing happening in it. It's a shame because I want to love this game. It's gorgeous, with a soundtrack I would unironically put on to listen to. Looks aren't everything though. Even though I burned out as fast as my vehicle did on that one checkpoint in Embers... I will not refund it. I don't know if Refract is making anything moving forward, but I hope they do. Clearly love and passion went into this. It's just not my thing.
