I recently came across the game Murdered: Soul Suspect. Honestly, for such a low price, I never expected to enjoy it this much.
The mechanics pleasantly surprised me, as did the story itself, which pulls the player deep into its atmosphere.
But, like in any game, there are some downsides. During my playthrough, the game crashed several times, and in one of those moments, when I returned, I couldn’t pick up a clue related to Brad’s help. Because of that, I missed the chance to earn one of the achievements on my first run.
Still, I genuinely recommend this game to anyone who enjoys feeling like a detective and exploring the dark streets of a small, lesser known town.

Absolutely love the game and would suggest anyone to play it. BUT, there were glitches that i did need to deal with when playing, one glitch was the fact that about halfway though the game all of the cut scene audio stopped playing (i pulled up a YouTube video so i could hear the amazing voice acting) and the other big glitch was the fact that the missions did not update around the same time that the other glitch happened.
Also the cat is the best character.

Found the intro really clunky and slow in the way it frequently takes away control from you in order to teach how to play it.
For the rest of the game, your main gameplay is not investigating but rather, the most annoying object-hunt. You have to comb through a small room to pick up clues in order to draw some conclusion in your investigation; some are obvious, but the most annoying ones are hidden away so what you're doing is circling around the room again and again to find the object and get an X button prompt. Worse still, you have to be the right distance and angle from that object, so sometimes the X prompt doesn't even show up. And, the boundaries of that 'investigation room' is not made clear, so sometimes you're even looking outside the range of that room area, hoping to find that missing clue.
And I've encountered bugs a few times where events don't trigger so I have to revert to a prior checkpoint.
All in all, I found the story intriguing and built up well enough but did not have fun with the gameplay; the object hunt just got annoying as I went on. Dropped it halfway through and decided to watch the rest of the story instead.

It is a really good murder story game with supernatural elements. Think Sherlock Holmes videogames style of gameplay but you also get to visti creepy places, converse with ghosts and solve supernatural mysteries. The story kept my interest for the most part and I found the side stories okay too. The presentation, atmosphere and world building I really enjoyed. The protagonist has a diamond in the rough and secret softy with tough exterior attitude and I really dig his design and acting.
The only part I disliked is not being able to get back into the city sandbox to get all collectables for achievements after you enter the final area of the story. There is no option to revert back to a previous chapter or to enter a roam mode after beating the final boss, so you have to replay the whole thing if you missed 1 or 2 clues and then continued the story. Also the cutscenes seem to be unskippable.
Still, I am happy with my purchase and i really loved the time I spent with the game, although I am not sure about replaying it just for the achievements and replayability is non existent after you finish the story (just like in most investigation focused detective games).

This is a game to play for the story, and not really the gameplay.
It’s a detective game with a supernatural twist, you are a ghost. I didn’t find it particularly scary, but it had a creepy atmosphere. Spectres stare at you from a distance and wink out of existence as you approach. Ghostly graffiti daubs the walls. The design of the demons is very well done too.
In terms of negatives, there are a number. The basic gameplay is simple, with most of it being exploration to pick up notes or other things of interest, and very simple detective gameplay. This normally consists of finding clues in the environment, interacting with them and then making deductions or connections. These are selected from multiple choice. The game appears to give you 3 attempts before failing these, I literally never failed one as they were all simple. Still, I did enjoy the detective gameplay, even if simple, as it propelled the story forward. You run around the town of Salem and various different areas. Amusingly there are some not very well explained rules about consecrated buildings and “ghost walls” to explain why you can’t just walk through everything since you are non corporeal.
There is combat and stealth though, and by God is it awful. You have to hide from demons via a very basic stealth system, with hiding spots and basic breaking line of site. You then run up behind the demons to banish them, by way of a quick time event. If you fail it or get caught then you have to have another round of crappy stealth to hid from them, or die and get thrown back to a checkpoint. Fortunately combat/stealth is not the main focus of the game, and in later encounters I was able to run past the demons without much fuss to bypass most of the encounter.
Graphically it’s not brilliant, but not terrible for a game from 2014. As mentioned it has a good atmosphere, which really helps sell the game. It ran fine for me at 120 frames on 4k (on a 4090 not surprising). Unfortunately all the cutscenes and many of the dialogue sections are locked at 30 frames, and the cutscenes are all rendered at what appears to be 720p, and there are a lot of them, so they look worse than the gameplay. This is an issue that plagues many games from this era. Some like Mass Effect have modders that work to upscale the cutscenes, but Soul Suspect being a rather forgotten game, no such option exists here.
Storyline wise then, it’s not revolutionary, and fairly cliched, but I enjoyed it still, with the aforementioned atmosphere and some good twists and turns. The main character, Ronan, is a cliché, with a criminal past (somehow rather implausibly his brother in law seems to have snuck him on the force), loads of tattoos and a dead wife. He comes across as a bit thick, and I anticipated some of the twists before it became obvious to him but he is a likeable enough main character. The other characters are interesting or likeable enough, such as the teenage medium Ronan has to team up with to solve the case.
There aren’t any choices to make in the game, you propel the story forward in a linear fashion and it’s fairly short, taking me around 11 and a half hours to complete the story and pick up most of the notes and collectibles.
I did enjoy my time with the game, despite it’s many flaws, as to it’s credit the focus really is the story. If it sounds interesting and you can look past the flaws, I would recommend it when it’s on sale.

Game is incredibly boring and repetitive and the voice acting is subpar. i'd only get this when it is in on extreme discount sale, otherwise avoid it.

Good and interesting enough to got me hooked. Neither short nor long for a detective/paranormal story and it feels like the characters' stories and the main story is well bundled up. The ghost stories were great, some more then others, the more gruesome the better.
A few things I don't like were: Main character was a bit slow to deduce and react, most of the time it felt that I, as a player, was uncovering the mistery faster than Ronan and there was little room for surprises later on. At least, there was a plot twist in the end I didn't expect.

Murdered: Soul Suspect wasn’t a game that caught my attention at first, but I decided to give it a shot—and honestly, it was worth it. It’s a semi-linear game with a main storyline, some side missions, and a lot of collectibles that actually tie into the plot quite well.
Most of the achievements are focused on getting 100% of the collectibles and completing the few side quests, so if you enjoy exploration and going for full completion, this game might be for you.
One thing I found a bit annoying, though, was the demon combat. The controls felt awkward and clunky when using a keyboard, so if you have a controller, I definitely recommend playing with that instead.
The story starts off fast, throwing you into the action from the very beginning. At first, it might seem like there are plot holes or loose ends, but as you progress, everything begins to make sense. The collectibles aren’t just filler—they actually help you understand the characters and their backgrounds more deeply.
And I have to admit, the plot twist was really well done. It unfolds gradually and is handled nicely.
So if you enjoy games with story twists, easy achievements, and a relatively short playtime, I think you’ll enjoy this one.
I completed it 100% in about 7 hours, and it wasn’t difficult at all. If you get the chance to play it, don’t skip it—especially if you’re into achievement hunting.
