Great game, just as good as the originals one used to play as a child in the 90's!

When I learned that LBA was getting a remake, I was beyond excited. Twinsen has been part of my life ever since I can remember. I played the original games multiple times with my uncle and my brother, and continued to do so for a long, long time. Twinsen is very dear to me. What 2.21 did, from updating the original games to the remake itself, is nothing short of a miracle. The amount of love and dedication they've put into this series is incredible.
"Little Big Adventure: Twinsen's Quest" is a very faithful recreation of the original LBA: Relentless, with some minor changes both in gameplay and setting:
- The removal of the mode menu was sad but understandable; removing the need to switch modes makes everything flow much nicer since there's simply too much to see and interact with along with many enemies along the way, so not having to swap between normal, sporty and aggressive modes is a welcome change in my opinion.
- I love the new artstyle. I'll admit it took me a moment to get used to it, but once I saw the game in motion I was amazed. Twinsen and Twinsun look better than they ever have with the lowpoly style mimicking the original games while also giving LBA a fresh coat of paint. The visual effects and sound design are beautiful, and it really gives the game an identity of its own (although having the original magic ball and jump SFX was a nice touch, they were too iconic to replace imo). Twinsen, Luna and Zoé's VAs did a fantastic job with the characters as well. I liked that most NPCs tried to imitate the speech quirks from the original games, but not all NPCs did that.
- I really liked the gameplay. The gameplay loop itself wasn't changed, but that was never an issue to begin with. While movement is smoother, it does retain a bit of that jankiness from the original games. It's up to you to decide whether that's good or bad, but for me it was fine since it felt familiar to my past experience. Combat was polished from the beta and demo, but some things could still be improved, like the damage animations of enemies, their aggro range and melee attack hitboxes. Other than that, I welcome the changes that were introduced, like being able to switch the throwing mode of the magic ball on the fly and being able to aim more easily. The dodge was also a nice addition, I found myself using it way more than I thought I would both for exploration and combat.
- I really liked the changes 2.21 made to the story. It gives the main cast a bit more background and characterization in comparison to their original counterparts. Twinsen is still the goofball he's always been, but he seems kinder and gentler, and his bravery to help and rescue his friends still shines through. Luna is a very welcome addition to the world and I love her. She's completely fearless even when facing FunFrock, and she compliments Twinsen's initially shy nature with her well-intentioned recklessness (even if that's what got Twinsen arrested). However, I think that the character that benefitted the most from this was Zoé, who had barely any screentime in the original LBA and just served as the main goal for Twinsen's journey. Having her help Twinsen in raising Luna without their father, suspecting FunFrock's true intentions in the prologue and helping the Rebels against him certainly made her much more memorable this time around and I really liked that.
- The music is as beautiful as ever. Philippe Vachey has recreated the original tracks wonderfully, and I stayed on the menu the first time I launched the game just to hear the entire new version of the main theme.
In conclusion, the team at 2.21 has managed to create a very solid foundation for a new era of Twinsen, and that gives me hope for the future. While there are things to be improved, I'm sure they'll do everything they can to make whatever they have planned for Twinsen the best it can be. I'm really grateful for what Ben and the team have done, and I sure hope they're working on the LBA2 remake.

What have they done to my boy?
Twinsen has a bratty little sister now. He is not saving the world, he's saving his little sister, and gets berated both by her and Zoe. Cause he is most definitely cattle.
He also has no more athletic, aggressive, sneaky and normal stances. It's all with the hit of an E. It sucks. It's like getting Crysis and making the special armor a quick time event.
The hit detection on slopes SUCKS. you can see the ball - which comes out of nowhere - hit but not register on targets every time the z levels are off.
It is stylized, graphically not terrible, light enough, the cinematics and sounds are good. But I do not recommend. The absense of sneaking in a game where you're escaping enemies is just... awful. You're twinsen, not an acrobat. Twinsen sneaks, then runs, then figths hand to hand and the ball changes with that.

fun, cute, nostalgic classic.
The artwork and story have chanced quite a bit from the original game, which I found rather odd. Not sure why a lot of the lore was missing...
Definitely recommend but kinda disappointed because the story from the original game was better.

Relentless, as it was called here, was literally the first videogame I ever beat on my own and it will always hold a dear place in my heart. As such it was such a nice surprise for this to popup on my Steam feed.
While ultimately I am not a fan of the art style direction and some of the new characters, many other changes were very welcome, the controls especially, and I am enjoying my time playing through this again. I'm honestly surprised that I was able to remember many of the puzzle solutions from something I played 30 years ago!

A must-play for longtime fans like me! If you're new to the series, this is a great opportunity to dive into the LBA universe.
Of course, this game isn’t meant to replace the original (nor do I believe that was the intention), so I highly recommend checking out the first game—and the second one as well—especially since the continuation of the story is expected to be released soon.
I really enjoyed some of the new aspects of this version, as well as its characters. That said, I'm still unsure about Luna, who might play an important role in the future. Hopefully, this revival of Twinsen paves the way for a long-awaited third game, something fans—especially those of us who played it as kids—have been hoping for.
As for the second remaster, I'm eagerly looking forward to it! I truly hope to see some of the nostalgic and iconic moments return, like the soothing voice of the female narrator when you take action or even Kiss making an appearance on Zeelich!
To wrap things up, I’ve seen some comments about glitches and bugs. Yes, there are a few, but in my experience, they don’t significantly impact the gameplay. At least for me, they weren’t enough to justify a negative review or harsh criticism—I’m just thrilled to see this series revived! That said, it wouldn’t hurt to be a bit more careful with the production of the second remaster. Be looking for it!

Pretty poor remake.
Graphics are... ok. It suits the overall LBA theme. But...
Controls are, poor, non-rebindable.
Changes have been made to the overall story - why?
Who is this arrogant brat Luna? Why is she there? She literally adds nothing to the game/story, besides being an annoying brat every time you see her - luckily, there are only a few times in the game that you do.
Why is Twinsen's hair purple? It makes no sense.
Menu system is poorly designed for the controller... with kb/mouse, the overall gameplay is poor - pick your poison.
Game is laughably easy and short... to be fair, the original's length was only due to its unforgiving and conveluted save-game mechanics, so that's ok I guess.
If you are new to LBA games:
- It's a good game for younger players who don't expect much difficulty
If you have played LBA games before:
- Do not ruin your nostalgia with this one, just play the original 1-2 if you wish - they are way better experiences
