Divinity: Original Sin (Classic) – 100% Completion Review
All achievements earned, every side quest completed, every secret, companion arc, and dungeon explored Divinity: Original Sin is where Larian found its voice, and it still holds up as one of the most reactive RPGs of its time. It is rougher than the Enhanced Edition, but completing the Classic version reveals the blueprint for what would become the studio’s signature design philosophy. You control two Source Hunters investigating a murder that spirals into a metaphysical crisis. The writing is quirky and full of charm, though tone can shift abruptly between absurdism and apocalypse. Dialogue choices, companion opinions, and even arguments between your two main characters can affect how quests unfold. Combat is the standout system. Turn-based, tactical, and heavily reliant on environmental interaction. Fire spreads, poison explodes, and surfaces chain-react with elemental effects. It rewards experimentation, punishes poor positioning, and scales in difficulty quickly. A 100 percent run demands full mastery of the combat system, especially on higher difficulties. Exploration is densely packed. Side quests are often multi-layered and easy to miss. Solving everything requires awareness, patience, and sometimes trial-and-error. Inventory management and UI are clunky, but the sense of discovery more than compensates.
Divinity: Original Sin (Classic) is imperfect but brilliant. It is a slower, stranger game than its sequel, but seeing all of it through reveals just how ambitious it already was.

The interactivity of the world keeps you coming back. It uses real world that is not at all common to games, at least not that I've played. The music is fantastic. The tone of the game is a little odd. Strange humor, dark quests and sometimes silly voice acting all at the same time can sometimes take you out a bit. The combat is layered, environments are interactive almost to the point of malleability. You can't change the lay of the land, but you can do a lot on the surface. The only gripe I really have is about the combat. Its incredibly long. There's no speed up button. At times I've sat through upwards of 8 enemy activations, and sometimes it takes a while between turns. Recommended. There's a newer one which I hear has more VA & updated visuals, which you should probably grab instead. Unless you're on an older system.
