This is a great game, one of the better games to come in a long time. It's very linear and not simple. You have to look at everything and read everything. The graphics are excellent!

Not quite what I expect in a horror game, but intrigued so far. Nice atmosphere.

Overall a good game. I think for most of the gameplay the experience was even better than Scratches. But the ending part seems a bit rushed and not well implemented enough.

I had wishlisted Asylum quite some time ago and lost track of it. Thus, I was delighted and surprised when it showed up as available on Steam. I am not a big fan of horror games, especially those that require running for your life under tight time constraints. I’m happy to report that Asylum projects an atmosphere of horror, but the only chase scene is easy and gives you adequate time to plan your escape. From the moment I entered the Asylum, I was hooked. It plays like an old-school point and click, and I soon got used to moving quickly through the building with my mouse. The level of detail in the environment is amazing… so much to look at, read, and just absorb. The dark, creepy feeling you get by exploring the emptiness is amplified by the soundtrack which adds to your sense of dread and anxiety. You play a former patient who is exploring his past to better understand the present. The Asylum has recently reopened but there is much of the past that remains (including some former staff and residents). Your progress is somewhat linear, with access to new areas controlled by the availability of keys or the movement of those who are blocking paths. The game clock seems to advance based on specific actions. This means that the game is moving forward according to your style of discovery, and you are never rushed along. There are a handful of characters to encounter in the Asylum. Conversations are conducted via dialog trees, and the voice acting is well done. The game autosaves as well as providing more manual save slots than you are likely to need. This is quite convenient in case you wish to roll backwards to a prior point. There are several sets of collectibles which are tracked in a journal and a small amount of inventory to ‘find and use.’ On all levels, Asylum is an adventure game designed with the gamer in mind. There are 19 Steam achievements. Most are story based but a couple require pre-planning. Completionists may want to investigate these prior to getting started. Overall, I loved playing Asylum and was sorry to see it end. My only question mark on this game is the ending which did not really resonate with me. It left more questions than answers but I am willing to suspend disbelief and go with it. I highly recommend this game. Even if you typically avoid horror titles, don’t let the tag scare you away. Asylum is creepy and dark. But, at its core, it is an engaging story that will hold your interest all the way through.
