This game is SO good. I've played dozens more hours than appear here, on my other family share account. I emphatically agree with the comparisons to ONI, minus the physics degree. This one's all about economics and efficiency, and it's super addictive and satisfying, with so much more depth than meets the eye. You can build, you can fight, you can explore, you can endlessly tweak policies...there's even a whole religion tree that I've barely scratched the surface of yet.
I'm excited for the full release but honestly it's a blast exactly as it is, and I have a feeling I'll be playing this one for a long time to come. If you're on the fence but you generally like the genre, DO IT.

Craft the world clone but with a rat theme and you issue commands through the leader to differentiate them. Fun.

I have spent 200+ hours on this game, and everything is fine once you get the hang of the basics. It gets easier later once all your production runs efficiently. Bed next to production building, near recreation and hygiene, then storage for that resource. Spread your food production. Create a tree water reservoir and have unlimited water. TRADE, TRADE, TRADE. Then once you have gained 300,000+ pias make all your citizens golden then they work more efficiently. Conquer half your neighbors, keep half for dar trade. Use and abuse forex + loans. Electrify and evangelise everyone. Keep and manage your lizard farm for souls and tooth. Provide all necessities, make laws that allow beneficial things available for everyone, especially bread and music stage and baths. In the end, your Ratopia will be realised. Plus unlock all achievements as trophy, everything is easy once you understand the mechanics.
P.S. Rush the snake shrine, the only shrine you'll ever need.

Recommended for beginners in colony simulation.
The characters are cute, and as long as you take care of your head count and food, you will basically never be wiped out.
Compared to other games of the same type, I have the impression that you can clear the game without flexibly changing your strategy depending on the starting environment.

This nearly is a very nice game, not too focused on the mood management part of the colony sim, but rather on the resources, production lines and logistics. Swordfighting is the usual "attack, step back, forward".
However, it is simply unplayable as a UI. While the games proudly tells you (every single time at launch) it support both controllers and mice, everything is a chore.
-Say you're selecting specific squares on the screen using your mouse : anyone would expect WASD to pan the camera to either direction, to reach the squares that are offscreen. Nope, WASD move your selection one square from where your mouse currently is. The right way to pan is to keep your cursor on the side of the the screen, just like RTS did in 1999.
-Want to select one specific rat/resource/building on a square that has several things ? Use the wheel to scroll through the smallest list they could make, with no background to contrast with its white text. Good luck reading that, when that list constantly changes as the rats come and go, fast. No pausing here, be quick
The bottom line is, the way they balanced their game is to make you act slower by making the controls clumsy. Instead of the nice game this could have been, this is just a frustrating mess.

This would be an amazing game except for one element: the disease system. I have spent the last four hours battling disease in my colony and have come across a few different flaws that all add together to make it nearly impossible to maintain a healthy settlement; first and the most severe of the issues, the citizens do not make any attempt to prioritize getting medical treatment unless they have NO other tasks or needs, in other words, getting treatment seems to be the lowest item on the totem pole behind leisure activities. Second: disease can spontaneously appear in your settlement without any contact with something that would reasonably spread it, even at high hygiene levels. Third: disease can spread between citizens at all stages of infection, at the early stage, it only spreads when eating, but it also contaminates the table, and there doesn't seem to be any way to clean them or have other citizens clean them. At higher infection stages, they will leave infected tiles behind randomly while walking around or doing their job, and most annoyingly, when they're standing in front of things like the storage or circus, when they're sharing a tile with several other citizens, near immediately infecting all others on the tile.
This system could be fixed in several different ways using elements we already have in the game such as the mechanics present in picking up wounded citizens and placing them in a bed, or capturing criminals and placing them in a jail.
Additionally, Doctors can't treat themselves. how does this make sense.
None of this is stuff you'd reasonably encounter during your first two hours, and if you did, it wouldn't be nearly as severe as this, so I am unable to refund the game, but this is a dealbreaker for me, and if I was able to, I would refund it until the disease system is fixed.

So much fun! Well paced. I didn't like Oxygen not Included, but this city builder/survival game has just the right amount of complexity.

Cute rats, fun production lines, enjoyable mechanisms, customizable difficulty, good game depth. The management UI is not the most straightforward and easiest to use, but managing a kingdom is never not a tedious job anyway.

Has been able to hold my attention without causing me severe anxiety and stress trying to plan out a massive oxygen production that ends with everyone breathing food poisoning air like in oxygen not included
