I wish Steam would let me just recommend a game to people instead of writing a whole review.... But, anyways, I a a big fan of this game, especially since they put in the difficulty settings. I really like how the game plays and how you have to plan everything and anything, I wish they had more safe-houses that were bigger and had more things to them, but, I also understand this is still in development. So, this review is mostly going to stay the same with some changes as the game develops, which i am excited for!

This is a fun take on the zombie apocalypse / survival genre. I wish you could pool all of the survivors together and pick which duo you want to survive with. Other than that, this is a breath of fresh air in the genre.

Shit's awesome. Only thing I'd say is make the characters with two positive traits and one negative at random. Same with the locations found items.

This War of Mine, but zombies. It's got potential, but I think it suffers from not doing enough different from TWoM. It's the same scavenging gameplay, the same base upgrades, the same needs with the survivors, etc. In a world where TWoM didn't exist this might be good, but right now it's hard to keep playing this over its spiritual predecessor. The biggest notable change is zombies existing in both the foreground and the background. The player only exists on a 2d plane, but if they're noisy/visible they'll attract the zombies from the surrounding environment. This works well in some locations, but in others it feels cheap. It feels bad sneaking up on 1 zombie only to get spotted by a second zombie in the background. I can't interact with or pre-emptively take out the background zombies whilst they're unaware of me, and this made getting spotted feel repeatedly not my fault. Relying more on stealth than combat would be my preference, but there aren't enough interesting tools or hidey holes to get past the average zombie over just backstabbing them. One other small thing it does different is the total absence of randomisation within a location. If you visit the same location in two different playthroughs you'll see the same zombies in the same places and the same loot in the same spots. Survivors, where recruitable, are also in pre-defined locations. Any story hooks are like this as well. In theory this could be good - and it's actually my preferred setup. In practice, the core gameplay loop presents itself as an almost roguelite scavenging loop. The presentation and the This War of Mine similarities suggest some kind of dynamism to the locations, but it's just not there. Narrative is unfortunately absent at the moment. I looted a dozen locations, and found a literal single second of story in all that time. Survivors don't talk to each other - except when recruited. I had one event at the base, which didn't seem to have any actual effect on the hideout or my survivors. They're just a collection of positive and negative traits, most of which don't really have much gameplay impact (e.g. +/- 1 ingredient using when crafting). A game like this could be good whether it leaned hard into survival or hard into narrative (or both), but Into the Dead is doing neither. After building 4 crafting benches I already feel like I've seen everything the game has to offer. As it stands, this is one to keep an eye on but not one I'd recommend to buy or play. If you're interested in this, play This War of Mine or Siege Survival: Gloria Victis instead. For a more mechanically driven zombie survival game, Zomboid does most things better.

100% worth it. I haven’t given it nearly as much time as I should but I’m here for it. I would absolutely recommend. Game has real potential.

This idea of game is very good. However, the animation and character control is a big problems.Very very salty in combat or animation, especially I the keyboard control action is conflict to each other( shift + Run same as crawl to the object) Hopefully developer can fix that. Not really fair for them to compare but I was playing This War Of Mine and they did a very smooth action and motivation. When we want to fast, the character can act quickly... Sorry for compare but you guys can learn from that.
Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days - A Grim, Gripping Survival Horror

Summary
"Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days" immerses us in a hauntingly beautiful yet brutally unforgiving zombie apocalypse. To be honest, it reminds me a bit of This War of Mine. You – as in we – lead a ragtag group of survivors, scavenging for resources, constructing a safe haven, and desperately striving to stay alive in a world overrun by the undead. The game centres on survival, resource management, and the emotional toll of a desperate situation.
Game Mechanics
Atmospheric Survival: The game excels at creating a tense and immersive atmosphere. Dark, oppressive environments and haunting sound design keep players on edge. Resource Management: Scavenging for supplies is crucial. Players must carefully manage food, ammunition, and other resources to ensure their group's survival. Base Building and Defense: Players establish a safe haven and reinforce it against zombie hordes. Strategic placement of defences and resource stockpiling is vital. Character Management: Each survivor has unique traits and skills. Managing their morale and well-being is essential to prevent breakdowns and maintain group cohesion. Brutal Combat: Combat is visceral and challenging. Ammunition is scarce, and stealth is often the best option.
Pros&Cons

Pros:
+Incredibly atmospheric and immersive. +Tense and challenging survival gameplay. +Compelling narrative and character interactions. +Visceral and impactful combat. +Strong focuses on resource management and base building.
Cons:
-High difficulty may be off-putting for some. -The game's difficulty can be punishing, requiring patience and careful planning.
My End Thoughts:
"Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days" is a standout survival horror experience. It masterfully blends atmospheric tension with challenging gameplay, creating a truly gripping and emotional journey. The game's focus on resource management, base building, and character interactions adds depth and complexity, making it more than just a simple zombie-looter. While the difficulty and resource management may not be for everyone, fans of intense survival games will find a lot to love. It's a must-buy for those seeking a truly grim and immersive zombie apocalypse experience. 7/10

Very fun and atmospheric except everything is the same, the same loot, same survivors, same place, same starting survivors. It really needs to have some sort of randomisation. The endings are somewhat anti-climatic as the characters are barely spoken too, they fall flat made worse by text endings. But this game is early access so the game will update and I assume all of these issues I personally have annoyance with will be dealt with or change to some degree. Even with this, I still have fun as it provides four game-plays and there is always the run of combining various survivor group combinations. So far solid 8/10

Well, just let my 124 hours played in the last week be a clear indicator of just how much I enjoy this game. I could go on and on about everything I found awesome, and write up a huge wall of text review, but instead I'll just say that this is one of the most fun games I have played in recent years. I played through 3 times, on various difficulty settings via custom mode, and cleared every PoI completely each time. I need, NEED more content for this game. I'm legit mad right now that I've completed everything. Mad and sad, at the same time. EXCELLENT way to spend $25 as of the time of this review. Buy it now. EDIT - starting up a 4th play through, I can't help myself. EDIT EDIT - finished 4th play through at 180 hours, lasted until March 23rd '81 and still have yet to see the Keyline Storage curveball. I gave up trying, still had plenty of food and wood for barricades, probably could have pushed late summer but Keyline just refused to open up. AMAZING game! Not a complaint at all! That was just my final goal and it'll have to wait until next update. Eager for what's to come.
