Don't get me wrong, I love love LOVE the original characters like Kataki. I adore them all and wish they were in the main series so I could see them more.
Instead all of these wonderful characters got put in a game with game play that is so completely middle of the road you can't praise it or complain about it. (You can complain about it, it's repetitive, but the actual mechanics and buttons work smoothly enough.)
Side characters the main series often ignores like Rigur and Haruna or Gabiru's cheer squad are often featured in side quests, so if you're not apart of the Kijin Legion and want some monsters in your series that was supposedly about monsters, this game does feed us a little!
Pros:
- Original characters and their stories are great.
- Side characters get some spot light in side quests.
- Game play is simple enough. If you need a game to just zone out and grind, this game works.
Cons:
- Game play is simple in a repetitive way. If you want to focus/have a bit of challenge, you'll get bored.
- Original character stories are great but badly paced. (For example: Kataki's story, logically, only took like two weeks chronologically. What he was DOING during that story should have taken far, far longer than two weeks. It results in you fighting him like 5 times back to back instead of spreading him over the course of the story.)
- Besides the original character stories, it's really the same slime story we already know, with pictures from the anime and everything. If you do things like read the manga and watch the show, (and/or possible play isekai memories), you've already seen the story like 1,000 times. Those parts are HORRENDOUSLY boring, because the original characters aren't used to add real flavor or a twist to these moments. (So, you get an entire chunk of story dedicated to Kataki, a whole marathon dedicated to the same story WE ALREADY KNOW, and THEN it focuses on Sumire in a chunk. Again. Seriously, the story pacing suuuucks.)
- City Builder elements are, just like in isekai memories, not given enough love. Would you like to place predetermined buildings in predetermined plots? Because that's what the city building portion amounts to. It doesn't even have decorations or anything like benches.
I'm an absolute sucker for the characters, so I really wish this game was better than it was, but it's just so, painfully average. I do not recommend getting it at full price, though it'd be fine at a discount.
