Extremely boring I'm afraid. The campaign is a series of 8 maps and when you start each you get reset back to a starter army of your main hero and some garbage troops, so everything you did in the previous map (including recruiting extra heroes and tuning army composition) is irrelevant. This makes the campaign feel just like a series random skirmish maps with a "plot". Skirmish mode itself was just dull. The game has the depth of a puddle.

This is a great strategy game, although I had thought it was a more classical deck building card battler, which turns out to be very far from reality. The game is quite novel in its approach as far as my experience with RTS, turn based strategy, card games and city builders go. I had a lot of fun, and although the game has a lot of content, I felt like there wasn't enough, albeit I played for 80+ hours so this point is probably due to my huge expectations from high quality games like this. I think Songs of Silence is worth the price and the time, I just wish I had options to truly feel challenged in skirmish mode as well, but the story is actually quite challenging so I think if they try to implement a more challenging difficulty or maybe modifiers the game would be quite captivating than it already is.

about 3 hours into the camp. playing it on balanced and it is extremely unbalanced to the point it takes away the fun from it. so i lowered it to story mode and enemy units still clear my army like its nothing. Balancing issues are a huge deal with this game. at least with the campaign. too late for a refund so im going to smash my face on the wall hoping it gets better but i doubt it will

So I'm a bit reluctant giving this a negative review as the game and concept is really unique and fun in some ways. You have a story campaign with a decent enough story, beautiful visuals, good voice acting, unique factions, a skirmish mode, a scenario- there are just a lot of good in the game.
However there is a lot of bad also. Some of the campaign missions just feel like a huge choir. You have to make the exact moves at the exact time OR you will fail a potential unlock for skirmish/multiplayer - and on unlocks - there are just WAY to many unlocks. Find the bard in 8 missions, talk to the Kobold Pip in 8 different missions, find these specifics spots and rescue these specific amount of people within this deadline - and if you fail any single one of these steps you don't get the unlock. So you have to go back and redo the mission and try to not miss some arbitrary timing you don't know about.
I think the unlocks are.. Cute. But there are just SO many of them. I think if you only had 20% of the unlocks they have in the game then you would have more then enough unlocks to enjoy. It just gets to be busy work at some point.
All in all, it's a chill, laid back turn based strategy game that has a pretty linear empire building, but that's fine - means less time spent on city management. Combat is done via auto-battler style, but with card interactions. Unique buildings and units are unlocked as you go on. Factions are decent- pretty asymmetrical which I love.
I've sunk 20+ hours in the game and I am on and off having fun. Sometimes it just feels like such an unnecessary slog to get through things and I just loose the drive to do it and if you are like that also then perhaps this game isn't for you.
If you have a huge grind mindset, love spending time doing very little at a time, enjoy TBS, gorgeous visuals, and unique settings - I think you just might enjoy this game.

This is a soft no from me. There's a lot to like about this game-- the texture of the worldbuilding is nice, with the stuff about the eternal hymn or whatever feeling cool and fantasy. The game itself is very pretty, the artwork is gorgeous. The campaign story seems...fine. The voice acting is mostly good.
Where it falls short for me is primarily the UI. There doesn't seem to be a way to check what the unit abilities/traits do in-game-- you have to manually look it up in the codex. It's cumbersome and an issue that many other games in this lane have solved already by allowing pinned info boxes so that you can cover over each term and get more details. And because the game is also trying to lore dump at you within the UI, sometimes actual gameplay relevant info gets hard to find. I know that I can dump my loot wagons for gold, but its unclear to me which cities qualify. I know my units heal in cities, but its hard for me to find how much they heal per turn. There is no shorthand to tell the relative strength of an opposing army composition before I engage it, other than a vague "hey don't fight these ones" message that, again, often feels hard to spot among all the other non-relevant shit the game is constantly throwing at you. I absolutely cannot track at all during battles which unit groups are struggling or in danger of being eliminated, and the game doesn't provide any help in this regard. The game overall does a poor job at highlighting and conveying important gameplay information.
The gameplay itself also feels a little flat. Maybe it is better in the full skirmish mode, but 3 chapters into the campaign, and hitting level 4 and 6 respectively on my mounted hero and my mage hero, most of the cards I've gotten seem only relevant outside of battle. It seems like the primary strategy the game pushes is to sit inside your cities for multiple turns while you wait for your slow resource generation to eventually net you enough gold/building supply to activate your blue cards to be able to actually buy decent units/have resources. and then its more sitting in the city as you slowly buy one unit group per turn until your army is filled. only to immediately lose 2-3 groups within a couple battles and need to retreat back to your city to wait multiple turns in order to build back up again. It feels extremely passive and not engaging.
The battles themselves also feel extremely dull. I have 1-3 combat cards, none of which feel all that impactful, and are only gated by their cooldown. so there's no real strategic depth to the cards, the question is, is my card off CD? if yes > play. It's also, frankly nuts that you're expected to set your army formations before you initiate combat, instead of having a preparation screen in which to do it after you've seen your opponent's formation. Because I have no way of controlling my units during the actual battle, again, I've lost a layer of strategic depth that other similar games like Total War or any RTS provide.
All in all, the whole thing feels samey. The units feel samey, the cards feel samey, the combat feels desperately samey, all while also encouraging extremely passive gameplay on the worldmap. I don't feel like i have significantly more options or unlocked anything interesting or exciting 3 hours into the campaign than I did when I first started it. Which really drains my desire for me to keep playing.

Played this on the standard difficulty, an hour and half into the game, got bored and uninstalled it. Couldn't get myself to go beyond chapter 3, there's just something missing in this game or maybe it's just me. Auto-battler system with cards is unique and gets way too repetitive. Fantastic art and design of characters, the world building is great but all too familiar. Kudos to the Devs for the artwork.
DON'T RECOMMEND!

The greatest strategy/tactics/autobattler game for the Steam Deck has arrived.
I can play almost everything I want on my Steam Deck ... except for strategy games. This scratches that itch for me. While it is not an RTS, it is fun to design your armies and watch the battles unfold in real time. The art is gorgeous, the music is great, and the factions are all fun and interesting. The story itself is fairly cliche, however the world is more inventive than most. And the game works perfectly on the Steam Deck.

The only positive thing I can say about this game is that the art was top notch.
Rest of the game just wasn't that fun. Played through the whole campaign and the card system, base setup and two factions really didn't make for a fun experience. I can't even remember what the name for both races were or what anybodys name was and I'm only after finishing the game. Just an unforgettable story with frustrating game mechanics that I did not enjoy.
2/10 wouldn't hymn again :(
