"Songs of Silence" - A Silent Masterpiece
SoS is everything I love in a strategy RPG; gorgeous visuals, tight mechanics, and a story that gripped me from the very beginning. The world is rich with lore, the game play is smart and satisfying, and the soundtrack is pure magic.
Chimera Entertainment clearly poured their hearts into this, and it shows. I can't wait to see what they have in store for this title moving forward.
A must-play for fans of strategy, story, and soul. 10/10

Songs of Silence is a gorgeous 4X game, similar to Age of Wonders, but with a faster pace and an auto-battler for combat. Armies can't be fielded without a leader, maps are fairly small, and capitals can potentially be sniped, eliminating a faction from the game quickly. This leads to quick but fun games. Unfortunately, this means you're not doing very much empire management other than allocating resources to units or upgrading your towns for more resources to upgrade or buy units.
Battles are automatically played out. Units crash into each other while you can play skill cards (this is just a UI flourish; this game isn't really a deckbuilder) for various effects based on your hero and level up choices. On a superficial level, it seems like casting immediately on cooldown is the way, but often it's best to save them for key moments, for example, flying your units over to help your ranged units engaged in melee. Units, themselves, have different power levels which can be modified by their various passives. The strategy comes mostly before combat happens with your choice of units and how they're laid out in combat.
The game has a campaign that's worth the price of admission and an encyclopedia with achievements for the hunters out there. There are also various scenarios if you can't get enough, and the devs have promised more to come.
Overall, for it's price point, I highly recommend this game for those who are fans of the 4x genre, but want something faster paced than the usual.

Good battle system and enough diversity in the factions to be engaging. Story in the campaign is weak as it seems to be a simple version of a real story in a story world that could be great.
The illustrations are amazing and manage to deliver a good backdrop for the story world.

Avoid negative reviews for this game. Many came with impression this is something of a HoMM game or similar in nature.
It has nothing in common. No need to hate on a game because of someones wrong impression and prejudice.
Artwork and design of this game is masterclass.
Gameloop is rather weak, but campaign design is it heavy saving grace.
Story is interesting but personally I believe they could add much more lore and events on each map without any issue, since general gameplay is on a slow/balance side.
Usually when people say it has weak story because it jumps forward fast, it means it's good and interesting story, and people want more details.
I often read each and every node(city, tower, bridge etc) lore and they often overlap and repeat.
Difficulty is alright. In campaign at least enemy just spawns predetermined army patterns, so picking easy, balance, hard is correct and there isn't any noticeable spikes in difficulty.
I suggest firsttimes to play on balance, there are often timed quests that trigger at specific place/turn.
It's a rough diamond for sure. Needs more content and polishing and I'd consider a classic and a must play. If anything for the story and lore and fantastic artstyle.
tldr; 8.5/10

Feels like a mix of MoM and HoMaM, but there isn't enough of either MoM or HoMaM in this. It's way too simplified, no growth or production mechanics, impractical/information sparse UI, MoM unit centric unit creation clashes in a bad way with the HoMaM hero centric army management and a uniquely annoying and shallow hero centric city management.
Reminds of other modern safe and wide audience friendly - except actually crippled and core audience hostile games. Feels designed by committee.
This game didn't scratch the itch of either of those games and left me deeply unsatisfied.

Would love to have an excellent HOMM successor; this ain't it.
There's almost zero feedback in the auto-battles, leading to situations where your units melt outside of AoEs with no ability to understand WHY they melted. This means you have no way to build differently and counter it other than trial and error.
Without feedback, it's really hard to want to engage in the systems that are undeniably there and effort has clearly been put into. Don't make me guess. Don't waste people's time.

Alongside the beautiful and intricate art style, this game actually leans heavily into simplicity. The autobattling combined with a streamlined set of decisions on the strategic map makes for a focused core gameplay loop. Complexity stems heavily from faction choice; all the armies have wildly different core mechanics and play styles layered on top of that core loop. Of the HoMM-likes released in recent years, this is probably my favorite.

at first i was a bit on the fence with auto battle, but the cards play bigger role in battle than i realize other than that for an indie game which i bought for 10.99 including expansion i think i got a great deal and I haven't even finished the campaign(last chapter is really hard :) )
overall really good game, if you want to give it a score i would go with 7.5 or 8.
my biggest issue i have with the game is the building variety and unit variety which i think would solve itself in the future expansions.
