A Grinding Nightmare in a Promising Setting
As someone who just 100%'d this game back-to-back, I really wanted to like it. Even if it’s another Vampire Survivors clone, the Lovecraftian mini-premise and eerie art style initially draw you in. And at first, it works — the progression system is intriguing, with a constellation-based upgrade tree. New weapons unlock steadily, and later you gain access to invocation-style summons based on eldritch horrors. It hooks you — for a while. But once you hit mid-to-late game, the cracks begin to show.

Early Game – Die, Learn, Repeat
You’ll die. A lot. The learning curve isn’t unforgiving, but you quickly realize that only a handful of upgrades are truly viable: damage, reload speed, and movement speed. Elemental effects like chain lightning and cryo bullets offer some spice, but experimentation is rarely rewarded. Most builds funnel into the same two strategies: • Heavy damage, high movement, quick reload • Attack speed, reload, movement speed Dare to get creative? You’re likely punished for it. You’ll also start to notice the limited enemy variety — elites are basically just one color reskin (color red).

Mid Game – Where things fall apart
The pacing slows dramatically. Unlockable characters are mostly underwhelming. You’ll stick with the Captain 99% of the time — he’s the most balanced and effective. That is, until you unlock Ship Boy (around Madness Level 15), who completely breaks the game. By then, most passives are maxed out, and Ship Boy becomes an overpowered tank with massive XP gain. From that point forward, there’s no reason to use anyone else. By this stage, fatigue sets in. You’re replaying the same three barren maps, fighting the same three bosses. It becomes exhausting. There’s simply not enough variety to sustain interest.

Late Game – With an endless grind, interest dies
This is where it all unravels. There’s no real endgame. No endless mode. Madness caps at Level 20. Those final levels feel more like tedious chores than escalating challenges. Two of the bosses are so weak by this point that you can blast them into oblivion with ease. Worse yet, you’ll be grinding elemental bullet kills and god-type invocations just to finish the last few achievements. Any remaining excitement gets buried under mindless repetition.

Final Thoughts – Dead Game, dead hype
This game had potential. I was hooked early on — the art direction, the eerie themes, the loop... it all felt compelling. But after dozens of hours, I found myself bored, frustrated, and wondering why I kept pushing forward. There’s no satisfying payoff. And judging by the current discussions, it’s clear this is a dead or abandoned project. Even as a diehard fan of Lovecraftian horror and eldritch designs... I can’t recommend it, a total let down. 4/10

Not bad at all. It's fun where it counts, quite hard too, but ultimately it needs something more. Something is missing.
