The game is a messy affair, with boring buildings that blend into each other! The game lacks structure, so the developers need to go back and look at the original 'Settlers', and start over. Gameplay is so boring that you're about to fall asleep.

When this game was first announced I was hoping it would be similar to settlers 3 or 4 as those two games were amazing unfortunately that is not the case
No multilayer pvp, no NPC settlements to fight, Hostile NPCs are terrible, lacks an overall core and nothing is provided to replay the game. Unfortunately I can't recommend this game based on these factors.

Pioneers of Pagonia offers a charming blend of exploration, crafting, and survival elements wrapped in a colorful, pixel-art aesthetic. At its core, the game invites players to embark on a journey of settlement and discovery across a series of mysterious islands filled with natural resources, hidden secrets, and a variety of challenges. What sets Pioneers of Pagonia apart is its seamless combination of relaxed world-building and the more demanding aspects of resource management, making it accessible to players who enjoy both creativity and strategy.
The gameplay loop revolves around gathering materials, constructing buildings, and expanding your colony while managing the needs of your pioneers. Players are encouraged to explore the diverse biomes that the islands offer, each with unique flora, fauna, and environmental conditions. This encourages thoughtful planning as some areas are more resource-rich but may pose greater threats, while others are safer but less bountiful. The crafting system is intuitive yet deep enough to keep players engaged, allowing for the creation of tools, shelters, and eventually advanced structures that improve the quality of life for your settlers.
Visually, the game embraces a nostalgic pixel-art style that’s both vibrant and detailed. The landscapes are thoughtfully designed to evoke a sense of wonder and discovery, with day-night cycles and weather effects that add atmosphere and influence gameplay. The characters are endearing, with animations that bring a sense of personality and life to the pioneers as they work, explore, and interact with their environment. While the pixel art is simple, it’s effective in conveying the game’s warm and inviting tone.
One of the more rewarding aspects of Pioneers of Pagonia is the emergent storytelling that arises from managing your colony. As you progress, you face challenges such as harsh weather, resource scarcity, and occasional threats from wildlife or environmental hazards. These obstacles require adaptive strategies and sometimes quick decision-making, which keeps the gameplay from becoming monotonous. The game strikes a nice balance between offering freedom in how to build and expand your settlement, while still providing goals and milestones that guide your progress.
Though the game has many strengths, there are moments where pacing can feel slow, especially in the early stages as you gather basic resources and establish your foothold. Some players might find the management aspects repetitive after extended play sessions, as the cycle of gathering, building, and upgrading follows a familiar rhythm. However, these moments are usually offset by the satisfaction of watching your settlement grow and thrive over time.
In conclusion, Pioneers of Pagonia is a delightful mix of exploration, crafting, and colony management that offers a relaxing yet engaging experience. Its pixel-art charm and thoughtful design make it a great choice for players who enjoy gradual progression and open-ended gameplay. While it may not offer groundbreaking innovations, its welcoming atmosphere and the joy of discovery make it a worthwhile adventure for fans of indie survival and simulation games alike.

I didn't mind the economy side of it but in terms of balance for combat really made the game unfun especially dealing with thieves, even with rangers there were just too many swarms of them and they would die before even making a dent in the thief packs.
Overall, if they make some rebalances it could be better, but for now I wouldn't recommend it.

After playing for a bit, I felt like what I played was.... not bad, but also not really good. I couldn't put my finger around it. After a few more tries, I think I got something: It's a functioning city builder game, but it's not pleasant to build. It's overly complicated but in the wrong ways, and everything is not intuitive.
For example, the simple task of building a building:
1) Takes WAY too long to build because you have to wait for builders to arrive, but you really have NO way to track that. You can see how many builders your settlement has but.... where are they?
2) You HAVE to connect buildings with roads, but placement of roads is wonky and it's difficult and frustrating to not be able to make anything neatly arranged and organized. 9/10 I've accidentally taken out some resources because I've built the road over them without knowing.
3) This UI is probably the worst I've seen in a city builder game. Everything is god-awful small and squished at the top or behind menus. Resource management is difficult when there are just tiny numbers thrown at you and nothing is seamless. I got wood and stone at the top right. Okay... Why are the builders still not there? Oh they don't have homes? How was I supposed to kn- oh it's there in tiny writing at the top. Well, now on top of building the original building, I need the try to track how to build homes too... Huh, no tools too? Well how do I get tools? Oh, I have to build ANOTHER BUILDING to get that?
4) Buildings and resources and not intuitively linked in the whole process. If you are building a mining station, that station has a GIANT circle in which you want the coal or copper to be in. HOWEVER, you want to be productive and cover as many resources as possible in that circle, but that ALSO makes it not productive because then your miners have long distances to travel, but you don't really feel that negative result because you can't tell. There is no indication that resources are too far or that your resources are being acquired too slowly.
5) Finally, after all that, it just... doesn't feel like you're progressing in any way. Okay, the building is finally done... Huh, that didn't feel very good to accomplish. Now... time to wait for workers to get there (when will they get there, I have no idea), oh wait, I don't have enough workers? Well, how was I supposed to know that? Time to build more homes again, more tools again, and ah crap I have to destroy the building now because the road was done horribly and I can't place another building next to it without it looking like dogsh*t.
Other complaints:
- Progression doesn't feel like you're accomplishing anything. Your only notification is a picture of a guy telling you that you've advanced to the next stage. Uh, okay, what was the next stage and why am I aspiring to it again?
- You need STONES to increase your borders.... Let me say that again: You need goddamn STONES to increase your borders. Your settlement border is a bunch of little stone balls lined up next to each other. Without increasing your borders, you cannot access other resource veins you want. In my wholehearted opinion, they do away with this feature. It sucks. It's unnecessarily complicated. I hate it.
- Ultimately, this game is...aimless. I don't have any drive to aspire to the next technological level. City builders are about wanting your settlement to get bigger and better with each accomplishment, and I absolutely do not feel that in this game at all.
I do think they have something here that could be fun, but it needs to be revamped at a very significant level. One of those revamps is definitely to make everything LESS complicated. Sometimes, less is more.

Game lacks replayability. It also lacks challenges, as missions are quite simple, and so is the economy, once you get the hang of the game. I love playing this genre over and over, however, this game got me bored too fast.
