Despite the mixed reviews this game is a blast! If I had played before when flying had a tilt mechanic I would be pissed they removed it as well, but as it stands I'm having fun. The energy cost for the block/parry mechanic needs to be heavily reduced though. Unless you're god-tier at managing your energy or hold your fire chances are you'll be losing your combos and dying trying to parry with no energy. Something that would be fixed with a simple tilt mechanic.

Awesome Star Fox tribute with roguelite mechanics that make you want to keep coming back for more. Great visual presentation and controls. Can be a little grindy depending on skill level. Especially recommended for fans of the old Star Fox series.

Boring. Insipid. Lifeless. "We have Star Fox at home" level knockoff, tasteless schlock.
MAYBE there is a positive comparison to Star Fox on the SNES. But even there, the SNES had more dynamic environments and enemies. And that game came out thirty years ago.
Nothing about the game feels good. Flying is annoying. Shooting is brainless. Upgrades are boring.
Idk how anyone has a favorable view of this game. Don't even buy it on sale.
Not very good...
This game hasn't really changed, or improved much, since EA. Most of what's new is superfluous dialogue. As someone who has been watching the growth of this game and providing feedback, I can't help but be disappointed with the "final product."
In my opinion, the price isn't justified. $5 seems fair for what this game provides.

As someone who really likes the old starfox/lylat wars games i enjoyed this game as well. However it feels like it could be better.
It's subpar compared to those games and you cannot really compare it to starfox since this is more roguelike. I'm bothered that the developer removed the tilt function in the game and the enviroments are a little lackluster with only 3 acts and i wish there was more enemy variety.
Anyways space cats are neat.
Buy on sale!

Game is fantastic, highly recommend. Only draw back is it is very grindy, progression happens too slowly for my liking. Gameplay and visuals are awesome though, and so is the story.

Version 1.0 feels like it is half baked and we are sitting at version 0.5 with the amount of content available. 4 gun types, 3 missile types, 3 ships, 3 pilots, and no variability in perk selection. Not even any elemental upgrades to add slow, damage over time, etc. The game is so reliant on your primary weapon that it is completely up to RNG if you get those upgrades early to make a successful run. The game play itself is fun but the amount of content had me bounce hard off this one. I beat the game in a little over 2 hours, just enough time to not allow a refund. yay?
Additionally, the permanent upgrades are terrible and have almost no affect on outcomes. 1% currency gain?? 1% crit chance gain?? Milestone (unlock) progress is also poorly designed and acts as a gate instead of what a milestone should be. Progress to the next milestone should continue after a completed milestone with the remaining progress contributing to the next milestone. A game that had early access should not be this limited in content and missing so many QoL features

I absolutely LOVED this idea. Starfox Roguelight? Cool aesthetic! Music. The works.
Then they took the tilt funtion out. I had no idea this would be the fulcrum my enjoyment of this game rests on, but here we are.
So remember in Starfox you hit L or R and you tip left or right, and then double tapping that button does the famous barrel roll. It gave you a little zippy fighter pilot control. You used it to slip through cracks. Timed those barrel rolls to deflect projectiles. That was here. WAS here.
They turned it into this single button (tutorial still says doubletap. it is a lie) you cant tilts your ship. I hate it now. I hate how it feels. Its not fun to fly anymore and apparently that was it. I'm gona try to get a refund because but you know how it is with early access. I lost. Im disappointed at hell. I loved this until they broke it.
The devs responded in steam forums, btw. To paraphrase, "We hear you and we still think this is better" so yeah. fuck it. wish me luck, gang

I used to be a huge fan of this game, it was fun, and had high replay-ability.
Hopped back in after a break due to the 1.0 update and discovered they neutered the ship flying by removing the tilt function (common in almost ALL on-rails flight shooters) and replaced it with a parry mechanic.
The weird part is, the parry mechanic was already in the game if you double-tapped the tilt function, so all the devs accomplished was removing fine control and making the game easier, with a focus on flying through bullets via parry instead of around them **AND** through them.
They are staunch that this is the direction they want to take their game and if you want to use the old control scheme you have to load up a beta build from ~1 year ago with loads of bugs. People asked them for a toggle or to make tap-to-parry an accessibility option but they refused.
Understandable, it is their game. However, if I had known that this would be the end result, neutered gameplay and a focus shift to a cheesy, hastily thrown together story I would have never backed the game or bought it in the first place. Very disappointed in the final result especially considering this is the 'spinoff' not the actual promised product.
Unfortunately, doesn't matter, as it seems they'll continue with the "ease-of-access" design choice instead of fine control over the flying so I'm no longer interested in the original promised product.
