Can't get it to bootup, had to look up alternative methods. Terribly unfortunate because I LOVED MGS1 and direly want to know what comes next.

The game is a 10/10 but Konami *ucked up the hand grenades' explosion hitbox (relevant if you want to complete all VR missions) and a mod is still needed to raise the resolution. Still better than not having the game, though, but these issues shouldn't even be present to begin with.

This game is amazing. MGS2 offers many quality of life upgrades from the first game regarding the gameplay and the story is insanely well written. It's complex and at times it's hard to grasp the situation - but in the end everything comes full circle and perfectly sets up the afterfollowing story of MGS4. The only thing I would say that I don't like too much about this game is the alert / bossfight soundtrack, which just doesn't bring the same excitement and tension as in the other games, and from a modern day perspective (I've played this game February 2025) the gameplay is sometimes a little frustrating (aiming is literal hell in this game). But overall, back in 2001, Kojima has created yet another timeless masterpiece.

Steam Input is broken on Deck. Verification is a flat-out lie. Decent port but this desperately needs fixing.

Sons of Liberty was a huge deal for me at the time, and I think I appreciate it more now than I did back then. The only thing is I have a difficult time with certain cutscenes which affected me quite strongly as a child, considering my sister had recently died. Those associations are still very present so I don't replay this very often, but it's certainly no fault of the game. Strong recommendation along with the rest of the series in general.

This is one of those once in a lifetime works of art that manages to critique the world around it in a way so fatally precise that the person behind the brush seems akin to an omnipresent being rather than human. You're doing yourself a disservice if you don't play this.

Metal Gear Solid 2 is a scarily prophetic game about modern society. It follows two stories: the incident at a tanker with the returning Solid Snake, and the incident at Big Shell with the new character Raiden. While Snake not being a playable character for a majority of the game was controversial within the Metal Gear Solid community, I think using Raiden was the perfect way to develop the game's themes. It tackles questions about identity, legacy, AI, and even misinformation. If you know anything about Metal Gear Solid or Hideo Kojima, you know how meta and fourth-wall-breaking this gets. The topic of online information and AI is eerily similar to the issues occurring in modern society. Mind you, this game was created in 2001--over twenty years ago. It's really haunting to see a Metal Gear Solid plot come to life. With the rise of generative and "companion" AI, MGS2 becomes more relevant than ever. MGS2 is a perfect sequel to the already phenomenal MGS1; it reuses some of the themes and moments from the previous game, but also develops it further. Returning characters like Solid Snake and Otacon are subtly shown to have grown since the past few years. Snake is much more humble and optimistic, and Otacon is more confident and laidback. Otacon's side-story with E.E. really blew my mind. MGS2 is a game that is said to have changed people's views on life. With the deep monologues, rich story, and complex themes, I can't say that I disagree.
