This is probably the worst Call of Duty game I have ever played. CoD 4 to BO1 had some charm to them, but by the time this game came out the CoD formula & engine was starting to feel extremely dated. It took me over a year to finish the campaign (about 5 hours of actual game-play) because of how boring it is. The "story" is the embodiment of Mountain Dew & Cheeto dust. I didn't care about any of the characters. The weird brother/Dad dymanic is the opposite of creative, and the antagonist's motivations are beyond illogical.
Plot summary: My Dad was a super cool army dude who went on a mission with the baddie when they were teammates. They got into a bad situation where my dad didn't save the baddie's life because it was literally impossible. Thankfully the baddie didn't actually need to be saved because he apparently survived unscathed. Despite that, the baddie is so pissed that he wants to nuke the world and personally kill my Dad. He does nuke the world and personally kill my dad. So now me and my literal bro have to kill the baddie. We do kill the baddie, but (surprise) the baddie does not die when we kill him. The end. Make sense? Yeah this game is that dumb.

As a whole product, Ghosts remains disapointing with a number of interesting ideas and mechanics, today only Extinction being worth any extended playtime.
CAMPAIGN
I forgot this game was set in the post apocolypse, remembering only the 1st and final missions. Once again, the campaign feels the need to feature explosive set pieces one after another coming off as tonal whiplash for a game called Ghosts.
To me, this title first cemented the idea that the series was more interested in nostalga plays and looking back rather than actively trying new things.
Like Boba Fett, Ghost is no longer just a dude in a ski mask but has a spin off miliary group of top guys that all wear the same mask. It feels contrived, only existing because the devs assume the players knew the look of that Modern Warfare character.
Had the campaign still been set after the fall of America, featuring a small group in predominately stealth scenarios (such as the jungle mission and 1st half of the skyscraper level) the campaign could have been very interesting so far as the setting and premise. Otherwise, the entire story should have been gutted, cause its wack as shit.
MP
Multiplayer's built in maps are fine but largely unmemorable, except for strikezone. TDK is still fast and flinch is over the top. I would love to see Ghosts' perk system return some day, but I unfortunately doubt it ever will.
A reminder that this title is also affected by RAT exploits and with community server browsers being DMCA'ed some time ago getting a safe MP experience is unlikely.
EXTINCTION
Truly the only reason to pick up Ghosts today, Extinction is unlike any other bonus modes included in Cod before or since requiring players to build a class loadout featuring abilities and passives with up to 3 other players to pass Hives (horde waves) in order to get to the end of level and compete whatever objective awaits.
Extinction is still a lot of fun even in solo, though due to every run having to run online (Solo games recomended only unless you've got friends that have the title) you cannot pause and these levels are long being up to an hour.
With the season pass levels, each gets harder than the last and will take sometime to complete.
Get it on the regular 50% off sale for extinction. Otherwise the title is far from a must play in current year.

I was too hard on Call of Duty: Ghosts when it came out, especially coming right after Black Ops 2. The story? Still just okay, nothing groundbreaking. But the encounters? The level design? Actually well done. You get some cool setpieces, big explosive moments, and it never really gets boring. The pacing keeps things fresh, and while it’s not the best CoD campaign, it’s a fun, well-crafted shooter that holds up better than I remember.

I have been eyeing with this game for a long time now and i gotta say i wasn't disappointed.
Although the game was pretty short it had an enjoyable story and decent characters.
It features a solid, action-packed story about a special forces team fighting to protect the U.S from a global threat.
While the plot was engaging at times, it felt predictable and lacks some depth.
Overall i wouldn't consider this the best campaign in the series, but it's still a great game.

Good content. Surprised me at a lot of point and didn't expect how the story went as an old COD player.

best cod game
The perfect break from the cringe "tacticool operator" slop that COD is now. The game takes itself seriously yet still feels like an absurd action movie, which is what COD is supposed to be.

One of my personal favorite campaigns, part of the game was pretty overhated although the multiplayer did suck really bad, extinction was and is still one of if not my favorite modes that have been in a cod game since release. Campaign has my most favorite antagonist in cod games and one of my most of all time, Rorke and despite the ending being a cliffhanger, I liked it for the fact that the villain wins. It's not worth $60, I'll admit but there are so much good about this game that I personally really love. Extinction is an amazing spin-off mode though there may not be as much replayability, its still a fascinating experience nonetheless, Mayday and Point Of Contact will always be my favorite maps at heart. If you are looking for a multiplayer experience, this isn't it unless you're fine with playing against bots, of course.
