Like Crossworlds it’s not a stand-alone or add-on DLC, but a parasite DLC. It modifies the version of the game itself. Last time i didn’t touch Crossworlds and finished Princess, but then discovered that to see the new Crossworlds content i will have to beat the entire Princess from the start. I already started finished the tutorial dungeon, when i realized that Ice and Fire is the same thing. The two version are entirely separate and have separate save-files. To play Ice and Fire you have to play it from the start and create an Ice and Fire character. The first change you notice is that your units slowly gain levels, receiving minor stat boosts. Which could be cool in most other games in these genres. You skill tree has plenty of bonuses for vikings and orks. But in the reboot series you swap your entire army from time to time. And for the most of the game you don’t have enough units for your leadership. I was using the viking force as long as i could with, like, only 3/22 of green mystics, and levelled up the units a bit. Then i swapped the traditionally useless slow-melee guys for untrained jarls. Then i still had to swap the units from time to time. And finished the game with untrained dragons. So it’s a weird addition. The parasite-DLC adds a whole new isle, and additional quest chains on old islands. There’s some more new units. The game takes place on the modified world from the first game, and originally one location was locked out. The DLC restores it, but unlike the new island, that location is not integrated into the world until you finish the DLC’s story. So you have to run all the time on foot through at least three full locations between the quest givers and points of interest. And some of these locations ban horseflight. From what i’ve read and from what the writing tells, it seems originally you get pegasus when you first meet a valkyrie. But with the DLC you unlock it only after collecting all five, roughly at the tail-end of the midpoint. Story-wise that moment feels like the start of the end, but due to all the running around and complicated quest-chains sending you everywhere, it’s about the mid-point of the play-time. The main story of the DLC is pretty good, and i think it’s superior to the main quest. There’s only one broken side-quest, which you have to play in a very specific manner to finish. It’s the frog-leg quest given bu an undead frog in the restored ex-undead swamp of the DLC.
