Not a typical JRPG which may get things a little confused and/or frustrated if you come not knowing what the game is.
The pixel art and music are gourgeous :)
I'm recommending it just because it have a interesting premiss however it wasnt what I was looking for - more classical JRPG gameplay

I have been feeling like an extremely jaded person recently, almost as jaded as a cringe game journalist who obviously want games to put up no resistance from just completing them.
But going into this game mostly blind has been a huge fun surprise.
This game has a lot of soul, like the people who made the original and remake had fun making it.
To avoid spoilers the game is like a bunch of short RPGs that have varied themes and gameplay elements.
The remake seems to only have highlighted the very 90s-ness with things like the choice of voice actors and the music.
The Octopath style graphics were actually perfect for this game even though I think it can look silly sometimes (like a boss sprite being a bandit that is 10x your size)
This game is basically a 10/10 for me because it feels like all the things I miss about older rpgs and story telling that is good without taking itself too seriously (even has some extremely funny moments)

I love this game to a completely reasonable degree! I am so normal about Live A Live!
I remember playing the original back in the day, and I considered getting an untranslated port on NSO a pipe dream. I and a friend who also loves this game to a completely reasonable degree lost our minds when this remake was announced. It was a pipe dream of a pipe dream, and I am so happy this game has finally been released outside of Japan. This remake is incredible! So much love went into it. The voice acting, new sprites, and remixes of the original music were so beautifully done.
This is one of the most unique games I have ever played. The battle system is a lot more simplified here than other RPGs (you don't have mana and everyone heals at the end of every battle), but it is still really fun. But where this game really shines is in its story. I don't want to say anything else about it because it is best to experience blind. There are some parts that are a bit cryptic in the original that are still present in this game (though, there's now an in-game hint for some of the secrets), but it's largely optional. The game is also very short by RPG standards (and I did an all achievement run), but I don't consider that a point against it because of how unique it is. Some eras are longer than others, but they don't overstay their welcome.
Chrono Trigger, Octopath Traveler, and Undertale have Live A Live in their DNA. If you are a fan of either of those games, I cannot recommend this game enough. If you enjoy video games as an art form, I recommend this game. More people need to play this because this game is so good. It has gay cowboys, one of the cutest robots in all of gaming, a sassy edgelord, a himbo, a gremlin caveman, and so many other great characters, what more could you want from a video game?

This is probably my favorite old school era JRPG. Go in to this one without looking anything up. While the narrative and game play aren't perfect, they're both well done. If you can get your hands on it for under $30 I'd say it's a no brainer. Also, remake Robotrek SE im begging you.

Unlike most JRPGs, which have very long linear stories, this game has several shorter stories that you can play in whatever order you want, which is unique. Perfect if you want to play a JRPG but don't have a ton of time. I also love this game's depiction of hatred. It is so accurate, it's almost biblical: no matter where you are in history, hate will always be there, and it's a never ending battle, yet you can't give up nor allow it to consume you. If you're a JRPG fan and you're looking for a more unique game in the genre, you should pick up this game, especially if it's on sale.
