Experienced on the Meta Quest 2
You can view my initial impressions review & gameplay here: https://youtu.be/zdYfRnWEC-A I'm so disappointed. I love roller coasters / amusement park rides. I love dinosaurs. This should be a VR game right up my alley. Unfortunately, the quality control is just not there. This game has too many issues for me to recommend it currently as is. This game needs lots of work to be at an acceptable level. Game is running on the Unity Engine. On my RTX 3080, on high graphical settings (everything on high), I was getting variable frame rates from 90 to 30 fps. It was awful. I had to turn off shadows completely and I also lowered the grass texture setting. With that it seems that I was able to get mostly 90 fps. Unfortunately, the lighting is really bad. The visuals are all over the place. Some parts of the map will look good, some 3D models look good, some of the animations are good. Then there's the rest that look anything from passable to downright putrid. The quality control is just not there. This experience has 3 different modes: hunt mode, a dinosaur encyclopedia mode (full of narrated info), and a fun ride mode. The hunt mode is absolutely awful. The encylopedia mode is alright and it does have a lot of narrated info that is even animated, but a lot of the info is very stale, plus it uses a computer voice. Lastly, the rides ... *sigh* there are some rides that are okay. Unfortunately, the quality is all over the place. Plus this is where optimization is really needed. Overall, I just can't recommend this experience. Buy only to support development, otherwise, wait for a patch that fixes these issues (such patch is unlikely to happen). Rate 4.5/10. I won't refund. I hope the dev fixes this game, but I doubt that will happen.
If you enjoyed my review, please consider joining my Steam Curator Group.
Interesting entry of Vipera Games into VR Games for PC!
This game runs relatively smooth with some glitches and slight performance issues on all graphics settings at HIGH -currently the max. setting in the menu- with my setup: Valve Index, AMD Ryzen9 3900x12 Core, 32GB RAM, NVIDIA RTX2080S, Samsung NVMe M2 2TB, Win10-64bit It is definitely worth to try, because it is one of the best native -unity engine- VR Experiences for PC you can get if you are just looking for the close look at about medium quality dinos in VR with a lot of good information for each, some simple arcade mode to hunt dinos with dinos or want to test your VR legs in the rollercoster mode where I was only fine with TheWheel despite of quite a lot rollercoasters with some nice effects. Graphics: 5 of 10 stars - environments of rather low, dinosaurs of medium quality but eyes and teeth look good! Sound: 7 of 10 stars - music does fit but sound effects of dinosaurs are more relevant and support the atmosphere well Controls: 6 of 10 stars - select Keyboard w Mouse, Gamepad or VR Controller from the menu. There is nice and helpful explanation in the menu settings about VR Controller bindings, but for Valve Index, the default binding for menu is a gap. Content: 7 of 10 stars - With all the mobile dinosaur game experience and success, it was no surprise Vipera has a lot more than a handful of dinosours with partly detailed textures in the game and good background information in the encyclopedia to offer. The amount of rollercoasters is very good, but it is the most improvement requiring game mode I couldn't really enjoy yet. Gameplay: 6 of 10 stars - The three game modes which I tried are fun (hunt), informative (encyclopedia) or very fast action (rollercoaster). I couldn't yet find a completely free tourist mode and while hunting worked fine (dinos can also climb a bit), rollercoaster are extremely fast and flip you around in all directions that I really miss a manual brake or slow speed button to survive it or even to enjoy the dinosaurs and some nice scenes out there. Encyclopedia is simple but good, visit the dino and listen to the good background information. Overall I recommend this game to VR Enthusiasts who dont expect high quality textured environment, but want to show dinos in VR to visitors and have a comparable PC to re-start the game fast in case of bugs that are not fixed yet (Early December). The controls are relatively simple to use also for VR Newbies and there are many dinosaurs to take a close look and beeing impressed by their size, teeth, spikes or sounds. I would have paid max 30 percent less the price -waiting for a discount- given the current overall quality and content, but I hope Vipera Games will continue to improve and enhance this game and I look forward to this.
