Reaper of Immortals is a playable level-based 2D platformer that suffers from some jank, which may be to do with the engine it was made in. Its the sort of solo dev project you might expect to find free on itch.io when exploring indie games.
As far as that sort of thing goes, it really isn't that bad, but most of the games even on there are not the sort of thing I could recommend vs. the plethora of other games out there on Steam that feel more fluid and fun to play. I think it takes a certain kind of person hooked on raw B-grade stuff to play and enjoy something like this.
The dev has been very responsive to address bug reports, it's clearly a labour of love.
Reaper of Souls is "OK" but I don't recommend it.
I went through the first 8 or so levels (part-way through world 2).
I liked that I could dash from the start of the game ..and multiple times while airborne! Level design was decent enough honestly, so was the music. I've encountered similar games that just put one crappy 20 second loop in, fortunately not the case here.
The melee enemies could be dispatched just by walking up to them and mashing attack, because you swing faster than them and when you hit them you stun/interrupt their ability to hit back. This renders their blocking ability/attack patterns impotent in most situations.
I acquired a new attack after beating the first boss. It isn't clear to me why I would use it though. I might be missing something, but it is slower than my regular attack and deals less damage.
Some specific examples of jank would include:
-Getting stuck on walls when you jump against them, it stops your jump from reaching its natural height.
-Being unable to down+jump through a platform if you are too near to a wall, even if you are not even close to touching it.
-Had a dialogue get stuck one time (It stopped recognising my input to go through the text, possibly because I was moving and jumping when initiating that dialogue, hard to say what triggered it). It wasn't a big deal to reload my last checkpoint however.
-Occasionally you'll see some white lines through the screen like screen tearing. Its only there for a brief moment and fairly uncommon that It wasn't really a problem.
-When I beat the first boss, it had begun casting a spell against me. I was safely moving out of the way of this attack, however, upon beating the boss, it started talking to me and I was unable to move during that dialogue. ..The bosses attack was allowed to finish and kill me.
Not a big deal, as you respawn close, and the fight was not difficult.
